The painful emotions were supposed to teach the subjects to act rationally so when they arrive at the new planet they won't make decisions based on emotion. Henry mentions that

1899 totally filled the void left by the end of DARK, but dam I finished it in one sitting. I love the mystery/sci-fi genre of DARK and 1899. Can’t wait for season 2.

I think the point of the ship loop is to push humanity to evolve to make decisions out of logic and not emotion. Potentially emotion (love, hate, anger, jealousy…etc) is what pushed humanity to its downfall and now as they all travel to another planet, the ultimate goal is to evolve humanity away from that by changing how we think, perceive, and respond to the situations we are faced with. Maybe the only way out of the simulation is to make the correct decision and sink the ship, as they are told to do. This is the ultimate logical decision free of emotion. Henry says our emotions are what hold us back. I think it’s all a big experiment for humans to be better than we were before, and those who succeed can move on and colonize a new livable planet and not destroy it like we did earth.

My painful emotion is telling me it's such a pity (and a mistake) that Netflix cancelled the show 😭

Some other quick thoughts... Daniel told Maura they were married 12 years ago. Franz told Eyk that they had served together for 12 years. Elliot is around 12 years old. Maura told Franz that he was just a boy pretending to be a man. Hints? And the coordinates on the computer screen. Someone posted they're actually coordinates on Earth. In the ocean. But why the ocean? Is there something in the ocean on Earth? A new planet with oceans? Are we going to get an Abyss scenerio with aliens?

i have a theory that the main characters are trapped in this simulation as punishment and in the REAL world they are all in prison because they are murders! Ciaran is also the name of the Ferry Man in greek mythology (charon) and as we know this show used many names from greek mythology! the ship Prometheus was based off of the man of the same name, who brought humans the gift of fire (and was then tortured for eternity because of this)! then the second ship is Keroberos, which (Cerberus) was Hades three headed hellhound who guards the gates of hell! making me wonder if this whole simulation is a test! that these characters got sentenced to death for their crimes, but maybe they get a second chance for redemption first and thats what the simulation is! prometheus ship = the gift of rehabilitation keroberos ship = the deciding factor if they will die or not the brother ciaran that muara is searching for and in the end we are told is “running the simulation” = the ferryman waiting for their fates to be decided to carry their souls to hell 👀

A simulation within a simulation, or perhaps this new "reality" is a parallel simulation -- an emergency backup in case the first simulation becomes corrupted, which it does. And everyone is transitioned over. Really great analysis, by the way. Cheers!

I really hope they have planned the story carefully for all of the possible three seasons! What made Dark so great was the characters but also the fact that the story was so carefully interwoven. At least on the first viewing there seemed to be quite a few random feeling bits in this show and the ending left me wondering where they could possibly take it.

Clemence asks Jerome if they met before the same as Maura asks Daniel so between their instant connection and Lucien saying their marriage is an arrangement and looking at her is a reminder he can't have her I say outside the simulation she is with Jerome.

I’m not convinced Elliot is even dead. We don’t have enough information about this and who’s to say this isn’t his simulation? He’s the one who says “I want to live with you and daddy forever” when Maura is teaching him about the importance of letting go. Who knows how old he is in “reality”? Who knows if anything Henry said was true or Daniel for that matter especially if we don’t even know his status of living? Idk too much up in the air to assume anyone is alive or dead, who’s simulation this was and why.

Can we also talk about how most of the main Characters stole their clothes from someone else!? Ling stole her friends clothes, Ramiro stole a Priest clothes that he killed, Lucien stole a generals uniform, &Jérome stole an extra Employee uniform too.

Suggesting that She is in a new Sim Episodes 1 and 7 Have multiple hidden single-frame images All the Hidden images are part of Maura Memory flashbacks in Episodes 1 and 7 Hidden in Episode 1 is Henry in the Hall, Elliot holding the Bug from Episode 8, The Tray of Needles, The Asylum Chair, Maura's arm in the chair restraints, Her and Daniels embracing with her wearing her ring. Elliot Holding the Black Pyramid. This all Happen when she was leaving after helping Tove's Baby Hidden in Episode 7 An Image of the Crab Nebula, Injections with needs into Maura, The Asylum, The Cross over Elliot's room, A Human Brain in a pan, A room that looks like the room in the spaceship, Maura walking down the hall in the ship. These Images can be found on Reddit as well. My Main theory is Someone is Studying the human brain as a tool to run simulations. That Brain may be Elliot who died in reality and was preserved to both be part of this new technology and to keep him alive in a way for his parents. The characters may be the team of volunteers to test out the sim. They would be people who Entered at great risk but did so trying to escape their real-life pains. Some characters are not real but a new life that has taken hold in the artificial world and the sim creators and a faction of the AI are battling in order to get test subjects back out safely.

Sucks we’ll never know what will happen in the next season or whatever…Netflix cancelled this and I’m mad mad mad 😡. I binged Dark this week and was absolutely blown away by how awesome it was. So I decided to watch 1899, hence now I’m left with a unresolved conclusion…😢

maybe the reason maura is the one saying "wake up" after the trauma flashbacks, is because she wants to keep everyone away from their pain, rather than embracing it. like a subversion of the waking she eventually has to do.

Pretty sure Maura’s father, husband, brother and son are all dead. None of them appear in stasis when she wakes up in the final scene, correct? My guess is they did exist in reality but are now evolving code growing from a mix of consciousness and AI.

Great, intricate stuff. A nice future treat to look forward to in season 2. I do wish they had gone further in time for the big reveal. Hard to believe we would have survivor colony space tech in 76 years.

I think there are plenty of red herrings in this first season. Including that final scene. And there was something off about Elliot: He barely blinked and his clothes. He looked like Damien from The Omen. And there was something off about Ada as well. She knew certain information before anyone else did. She was conveniently absence during Tove's memory dream. Ada apparently is a very unusual Danish name. And outside of that newborn baby in third class and Elliot, Ada is the only child we see among the passengers. And someine pointed out that a famous female mathematician was named Ada. Hint? And why did Jerome refer to the birds as "who they are"? That was odd. Avd why did Ciaran refer to Maura as "sister" instead of using her actual name? And why did he write "From your brother" instead of signing "Ciaran" in her letter. That's odd. And why did his message say "Welcome to reality" instead of "Welcome back to reality"? The former is usually when you've arrived for the first time at a new destination.

This first season got great reception here in the US; I don't know exactly why they canceled it?! They always cancel the best shows after a few seasons here in America, despite popularity. All of my favorite shows from the last ten years or so have gotten canceled after only a few seasons. Everyone I know who saw this show loved it. What the hell, Netflix? Networks in America just assume that if it makes you think, we can't handle it. And then we get stuck with nothing but season after miserable season of crap like Two & A Half Men.

I think olak is Mauras brother and he did program loop in a way that when he's dead in simulation then he will remember everything instead of starting a new loop and ling yi was his real life gf thus they both escaped at the end and olak is only 1 who didn't had a backstory. Plus there were 2 places empty in real world when Maura looks around this might be of ciarens/ olaks and ling yis

I just love this kind of stuff. Was a bit concerned if this matches my expectations, but they nailed it. So many questions. Maybe they all are AI? Why Maura was the chosen child instead of her brother? What about Maura's mother story? What is the meaning behind names? For example - Olek (Defender of humankind), Cieran (the dark one), Maura ("Star of the sea"), Angel? Does this series represents dillema what is human without emotions?

So good! I’m glad I stuck with it and just accepted how bat-shit everything was; I loved the final reveal, I had a huge suspicion their “reality” was in the future. Thanks for all the theories, they really helped contextualize things like the pyramid and the purpose of each main passenger’s story. Looking forward to more 1899 content!

Looking forward to a clip that goes through all the "hidden" stuff happening in the background. Like how it was obvious it was a simulation in the first episode when they all drank the tea at the same time while Ling Yi's hand glitched out and skipped a few frames. Another thing I saw which I am not sure what it was is when they were exploring the Prometheus for the first time, the captain ducked to pick up the ribbon and something on the ceiling behind him moved.

Frankly I don’t believe Netflix gives green light for a second season for this bluff. I’m hugely disappointed and it’s been barely a month since the premiere and nobody’s talking about this anymore.

This show was a bit too much for me. Too many mystery boxes. The time loops in dark were hard to follow by the end but at least you were eased into it while still able to follow the different storylines and get to know the characters. 1899 was just too much work.

First of all, this tv show is just another masterpiece by the producers of the Netflix tv show Dark and i hope that a major twist is coming next season as they so well did with Dark. And just a little extra for you, if you enjoyed this show, you should watch on Epix the tv show named. "FROM" . it has the same vibe. I think the final scene of the season finale is just another level of the simulation where they're at, like Daniel mentioned to Maura in an early scene when he says " this was the first simulation we've created " And by the way, i don't buy the side of the story that Daniel is trying to make Maura believe in, just by the fact that she feels those memories aren't hers, so there's a plot twist maybe coming up in the future. My theory is that the first scene of the first episode after the ship, where we see that pyramid in something that looks like other planet, it's actually the destination arrival that's on the final scene of this season.. What do you think? The final scene is reality or simulation?

Very cool mystery setting,but the delivery wasn't as great as Dark. Sometimes it felt like it was one liners after one liners...all cheesy. Could have been way better but I liked it nonetheless. Very curious about how this will turn out.

I enjoy the comments as much as the video. With everyones own ideas of rhey think may be happening. They have ideas of stuff that are sometimes missed. I will miss this show. Had so much potential. Darn you Netflix.

The symbols on everything and tattoos are also the known symbol for earth. Fire, air and water have their own respective similar sign. If anything I think it stands for the opposite of being just a consciousness. Perhaps a reminder of where they came from? A way to ground themselves? Or maybe it’s a company moto of some sort for whoever is running this. Maura has one when she wakes up in space so 🤷🏼‍♀️ food for thought.

Wish they would put a mini-series label or something on their preview window so i wouldn't have forced myself to watch it based on hype-connection to Dark creators... Also wish some streamer will bring back Raised by Wolves from Hbo. So much junk filler getting multiple seasons and spin-offs but they can't scrape together a budget for fewer higher quality productions

love the show, the cinematography was beautiful, the actors was great, plot was alright, and the payout was there. the biggest down side of the entire show is that, it always threw me off with the lip sync, i think its the ultimate downfall to why no one watched this show all the way through. i had to drag myself across each episodes to finish it. every time the plot gets good, im thrown off by the desync in the voices. it just ruins everything. the reason why dark was amazing was because it was originally filmed with the actors in german, their native language and it helps the actors covey feelings and emotion through their voice and acting, you just cant get the same result with dub. sub>dub

Since Daniel is basically Noah, a child murderer who really just tries to save his family and considers his vile actions to be undone in the end and Henry is essentially Adam a seemingly all-knowing man pulling all the strings but is really just another prisoner of fate trying to break free with much more vicious methods and a philosophy about cutting out your desires/emotions to act freely it's probably safe to assume that Ciaran is by far not a clear cut mastermind behind or in control of anything really. Interestingly we get basically Noahs and Adams full reveal regarding Daniel and Henry in the first season so is this because the creators don't want to retread to much or is it because they plan to take the antagonists beyond the scope we've seen in Dark and we get the kind of character that is one step beyond the likes of Adam and Eva. And if we apply Darks characters as archetypes to the show does Maura correspond with Tannhaus or Claudia?

I seriously don't think she ever had Elliot. He was a miscarriage. The child we see in the series is a construct Mora made because she Wanted a child more than anything. I don't think her 'husband' is her husband either. She has no emotional attachment to him, but does and so for the captain. Why? The mind forgets but the heart remembers.
