What is the most Effective Counter Attack for you as a Defender?
The most Effective Counter Attack depends on 3 things:
1. Pain Causes the Attacker
2. Willingness of Defender
3. Skill of the Attacker
We often select the most effective counter-attack only considering the first point i.e. Pain causes the Attacker. But we forgot to consider the second and third options. In this video, I describe the importance of the three options when you consider the most effective target area for the counter-attack.

Your story at @7:45 is so interesting and I have never realized that the strike could be defended so easily. I do have some follow up questions though. You mentioned that the guy had told you to stop going for groin kicks, did you see that they were effective and you were able to land them when you used them before with other people in your training? Was the guy weakening a cup and that’s why the strikes weren’t able to land? In a self defense scenario where an attacker might not be as trained or qualified as the guy, do you think the kick would be more effective? Also in what martial art where you guys training in? I thought that groin strikes were not allowed in most. Thank you, your videos are so great and are always teaching me something new, sorry for the long response as well😂.

we weren't training in any martial art - we were doing street self-defense training. Yes, a less trained attacker may not think to protect his groin. This is all hypothetical so you'll only know once you're in an attack - you're best bet is to find ways to avoid an attack to begin with - prevention is better than cure.

I think if I was defending myself against a man I would use a side body shots (a liver hit can be very effective). I think I would be more concerned with making my shots quick if I was fighting another man, I think speed can beat power and I would be less apt to throw kicks because I would be concerned about my balance. Shoving the opponent would also be an option here depending on their size too, I could knock them to the ground. If I was defending myself against a woman I might actually consider using a groin strike; even if it's not *as* painful against a woman, I think a woman won't be as likely to defend the area so well and also I would be less grossed out by having to use the strike against a woman. Bar that, shoving the opponent down also seems like a really good option.

The formula is a interesting way to look at it. I think what you say makes a lot of sense. Personally I have no sense of how good a target something like the solar plexus is in reality. I feel everyone know how painful the eyes, throat, groin and things like getting kicked in the shins is. I really think it depends, if your following the formula method, the formula will be different for each situation and attacker. The parts of the forumula you can control is yourself. I feel like the whole discussion of "this is a good target" vs "this is a bad target argument" might be a little bit over blown when compared to the importance of Learning proper technique, developing your skill through practice etc Realistically my number 1 technique is running away :D

Excellent point Alexa. The best self defense is no self defense at all. Not being in this situation, avoiding it or running away is always best. Stay safe!

I had a couple questions. One is if you strike someone's ears, is this a viable defense tactic or is it not likely to be as effective? I've been hit on my ears before and if it's done right it can be very unpleasant. Also how many points out of ten in pain does the groin strike score on a female? Is it similar range to solar plexus?

Yes it’s effective if you attack the ears with the cup of your palms. It creates pressure which causes pain and disorients the attacker. If done right, which is from underneath, then female groin can still be 10 on 10. Solar plexus are same on both men and women

Your voice. A loud voice is just as deadly a weapon to stun your attacker and rupture their eardrums. Good luck 👍

What if the person is obese, Is solar plexus punch effective in this case?
@DefenseNinjas
@DefenseNinjas 2 жыл бұрын
Excellent question! I have tried this on a person with a big belly and it works because the belly starts right below the pressure point. So for an obese person, hit right above where the belly starts. Hit at the thinnest point. Stay safe 👊
