Maybe it's better not to cover up truths that cost people education about how many senior dogs are dumped like trash every... single... day. If you ever decide to help and foster/ become part of rescue, you'll quickly learn it's very rarely because the owner died

@christinebuckingham8369
@christinebuckingham8369 9 ай бұрын
@@illbenny1865 It all depends on the reason that's true. If a pet owner dies, it's kinder for family members who can't or won't take responsibility for their loved one's pet to bring them to the shelter, than to abandon them. If a loving pet parent is going into a Nursing Home, facing extreme or terminal illnesses and has no one to help their pet, reaching out to a no-kill shelter or Rescue group is a sad kindness to offer their pet a chance at a future home after they pass or are no longer capable to care for them. 😢 A kind and heartbroken homeless person or someone who just lost their home and surrendered their dog to help them is another sad and valid reason. If someone can't afford their pet's medical bills may be another reason - hopefully they will try to get a payment plan from their Veterinarian or ask animal charities or their local shelter for free or lower cost help, or set up a Go-Fund me account first. There are valid and sad reasons to surrender a pet and there are selfish reasons as well. One of the saddest occasions when I volunteered at a pet shelter I'll never forget. Oliver was a 13 year oldish, sweet and docile Bassett Hound who was brought to us on Christmas Eve, by the husband's Secretary, because the parents were giving their children a new Puppy for Christmas the next day! Poor Oliver and those poor kids! He was such a sweetheart, I got him into a wonderful weight loss for dogs program at an amazing pet Boarding Facility. (this was Oliver's miracle!) This new program got him on television and also got him adopted by the kindest young woman who worked at this facility! She fell in love with this sweet senior, treated him like a beloved child until he went to the Rainbow Bridge. Oliver had a happy miracle after being dumped at the shelter- many do not, depending on the State the shelter is in and if it's a No-Kill shelter, and if the workers and volunteers are dedicated and caring! Best wishes to you Benny. 🙏❤️

So cruel to dump ur dog after 19 years. I’m so glad these adoptive parents came along. I recently rescued a dog a if I didn’t rent I would take take as many dogs as I could handle. I would definitely consider an older dog. I know you may have less time but they will definitely appreciate you and they most likely will come potty trained and leash trained. Any rescue imo comes with this special type of appreciation. Unfortunately they most likely had to see hardship along their journey. Pets are not disposable. Why do some people have no compassion? They are missing out on the best friend they could every know.

I got my boy Steve when he was 98 days year old. He's 6.5 years old. I can't even imagine giving him up for any reason. It will breakmy hear when Steve passes away. Abandoning him would scar my soul. I can't even go on a vacation without him. He is my family!

My mom had a rescue and had adopted her about 4 years previously. I drove my mom to the Foster’s home to pick her up and promised me that when my mom passed I would either take her or contact the Foster home so they could take her. My mom was already 89, almost 90 but looked like a generic senior. She lived to 93-my dad took over when my mom passed (he was about 8 yrs younger) but he missed my mom so much, he passed 6 weeks later and my hubs and I took her. . .in fact one of my most vivid memories of my dad’s passing was him lying in a hospital bed with many IV drips infusing and intubated and sedated, and my hubs whispering in his ear. When I asked if he could share what he said-he told me that he promised my dad that we would take over Cleo’s care for the rest of her life. My dad passed shortly after that-within the hour. It is strange and amazing how our love for dogs can influence and shape our world. What happened to Cleo? My hubs passed a year to the month after my dad-I moved from Ohio to Utah to be with my daughter and despite them also having 2 senior dogs, my two seniors-my dog and Cleo -all meshed into a pack that were loving and companionable. Both of my dogs slept on my bed and one morning when I woke, Cleo didn’t. Our family had her for a total of 12 years and she had already had 3 litters from the breeder from whom my mom rescued her so she must have been around 15 and was the sweetest girl. I’m 77 and cannot recall having a dog from puppyhood since I was a kid. We love Senior Rescues.

Seniors are the most rewarding rescues. My Neopolitan gave me 1yr and 8 months before his cancer returned and took him. As I knew it was going to from the start. R.I.P. Kilo, the handsomest hound around. He passed 27.12.2014 at 10.08am in my arms.

@@hippiemama52agreed. We don’t know their story. They could have had genuinely honest intentions. That being said the worst is when people get puppies and just get rid of them when they’re older. Makes me sick.

If there's one thing I've learned on this planet, it's that there are huge differences in the capacity of individuals to feel and express love. The family who had this dog for 19 years unceremoniously dumped her, and yet strangers took her in and went out of their way to cherish her in her old age. In the process, their capacity and the dog's capacity to feel joy and love increases exponentially.
