Decades ago I had a Turkish 98 Mauser action. I had McGowan barrels install a 250 Savage barrel on it. It an ideal cartridge for the smaller action. I didn’t damage any crests with the scope mounts. The gun shot extremely well

Well, the 1909 Argentine also used that type of bolt release and clip guide. It is a 98 action as well. I believe the Peruvian did likewise. One of the queer things about the Turks is the relief of the face of the reciever ring in lieu of a rear band to hold the rear of the hand guard in place. Never seen that on any other model of mauser rifle!

Thank you so much for the detailed, excellent video. Recently purchased a 1903 converted to 8mm, was worried about the dimensions for the stripper clips and thought I had to displace the arm bolt release with my finger, clearly not the case.

the 1903 also has a shorter receiver and bolt than a regular 1898 mauser.

I have a 8mm mauser, Turkish on a small ring action. It has the slot cut in the ring so the longer bullet will go in the magazine. Is that one a small ring action. Mine is.

@@jameslaird3030 and it's the one used for the 1889 belgian mauser and the 1891 argentine. Liberty tree collectors is sold out but they have them some times. My friend's store might have them too. Military historical arms and antiques. Just in case you would ever want some.

Thanks, mine is the small ring. I was told it is verry hard to find them. By the way I bought this one for so cheep it would make you sick. Under 100.00.

@schutztruppe it has the Cresent moon with a star above with T C with star between .ANK left of MOON ARA Right of moon under the moon is 1939 on the end of barrel said made in Turkey and cal st alb VT 8mm

@@schutztruppe also the rifle was duffle bag cut. So I have the action barrel and buttock. The fellow I got it from did not have the sling the barrel rings or front part of the stock. No rust it was clean. And the barrel rifling is like a mirror. Checked head spacing it is good. So it will be turned in to a hunting rifle . Bolt will be cut of and a new turned down tig welded on. Sights removed polished and blued. Clip hump milled off drilled and taped for scope rings. And a Pope recess crown on barrel. I think it will be a good shooter. Most of them will do a good three shot group. Then start walking the bullet. Barrel gets hot. After cooling down it will do three more in tight group. Have fun I am.
