I talk about a custom rifle that I am working on and what the issues are. Overall whomever did this work originally did a decent job. There were just a few things that I didn't like about it and I decided to fix and repair. It did have feeding issues which was the main problem with the functionality. Most of the other stuff was just cosmetic to repair the fit and finish.

Another awesome video. A note to your listeners, you didn't mention it but always cut the crown from the bore outwards so you don't end up with a burr on the inside. I got 2 Wilson light varmint barrels from ragged hole barrels per your advice and want to make one a 6mm rem and the other possibly a .308 win as I have alot of ammo for both but no longer have any rifles that shoot them.( I may just make it a 3006 ) Do you think I'll have any feed problems without any changes? I have both my rifles rebarrelled to 30-06 already and don't really want to change anything other than maybe to spare mag boxes and followers so I can still use them for 06. I may get a barrel made for 220 swift eventually too as I also have alot of ammo for it as well. They should all work without any changes to the bolt. With current ammo prices I figure I'm better off changing barrels on the rifles I already have and making them to fit ammo I stockpiled years ago. (I'm disabled on a very limited income) Thanks for another awesome video. I'll be eagerly awaiting part 2. I really love the old Enfields and they're so much better made than most cheap rifles today unless you want to spend a couple thousand.

Loved the video because it's a project close to my heart. I have a 1917 action I wanted to make into a 338 lapua. Bought most of the items to make it. Still in a box. PacNor 1 in 10 chambered and threaded for 1917. Timmey trigger go/no go gauges. Lots of stuff. My friend was the Machinist, he passed away suddenly. So my mentor was taken from me. What inspired my build is my love for the 338 lapua and my Desert Tactical SRS scout. Would love to finish mine but don't see it happening. Elmer Keith and all his 1917 creations were inspiring as well, most likely the roots to this project.

Yeah I kinda fell into this one. The guy I learned from actually did the action. Not sure about the barrel, but the reamer was his and he built quite a few of these.

Im thinking around 3/4 moa with a 5 shot group. Would love to see a more in depth video on opening up the rails. I am working on a .416 Rigby build with one of these actions and have been debating on weather to send it off to have the work done or take a shot at it myself. I also got ahold of a complete bottom metal assembly for a CZ 550 magnum that I am trying to retrofit to my action just to make it a little more professional looking.

Unless you have a mill, ide have someone else do it. Even with a mill, it's a lot of work. Not even sure what is charge to do this for someone else. Most guys just get a 550 action and go from there.
@Rigzly23
@Rigzly23 2 жыл бұрын
@@precisionmachineshed I do have a mill. It's a small one but it works. I've already done everything else short of installing sights (still trying to decide weather to install a quarter rib or just use the Lyman peep that came with the action), and mounting a secondary recoil lug on the barrel. My only concern is that I'll have to buy or build some fixtures to hold the action securely enough to the mill without shaking loose.
@precisionmachineshed
@precisionmachineshed 2 жыл бұрын
If your mill can nod the head then its fairly simple. If not it takes a little more work with the setup. I have a fixture for holding the action upright, but upside down, I have long blocks that I clamp the action in to hold across the flats spanning the lug to right in front of the trigger assembly. Nothing special, just blocks. You need to shim it to get the correct front to back angle too.

Hi Brett, Was that a copper ring you had between the barrel and chuck... Was there something also at the other end... It would be a cool video series showing how you do the workholding on rifles. Take care. Paul,,

Its a pivot to dial in the barrel with. The 3 jaw is adjustable like a 4 jaw. That along with a spider on the outboard side of the spindle.

So I know little to nothing about Enfields. What books would you suggest I start with, and do intend to put more in depth content on your Patreon? Very interested to learn about these

Not to be rude lol I’ve been waiting patiently for 2 years on another video on this rifle build. Were you able to get it to feed properly and how did it shoot.
@precisionmachineshed
@precisionmachineshed 5 ай бұрын
No worries. I'll have to look through my uncut video and see if I have any material there. I did get it to feed correctly, but it is honestly such a tedious job that it's hard to film and make it interesting. I have not shot it however it is on my list of things to shoot once I get time. I did end up cutting the feed ramp to get it to feed correctly, (which is needed and common practice) so I want to test fire it a few times on a lead sled before I get behind it. I have a guideline for that cut so i'm pretty confident in it, just want to be safe rather than sorry. I'll put it in my "things to do" list so I can get it done soon. I have moved most of my firearms content to my other channel. Apex Custom Rifles

@@precisionmachineshed thanks for letting me know about your new channel. You do great work I’ve actually took your advice on a couple things when I build by rifles on M1917 actions or P14 depends on which shell I want to use.

.7 MOA. Was it hard to get the barrel off? Did you reface the bolt? Thx, very interesting as always.
@precisionmachineshed
@precisionmachineshed 2 жыл бұрын
Barrel came right off. Original barrels can be a bear. I didn't touch the lugs or bolt face. If I did the headspace would need to be re-set. The cone was tight so taking a few thou out on this barrel was OK and still left proper clearance.
@br4713
@br4713 2 жыл бұрын
@@precisionmachineshed I dont know why they dont make such cone on all the bolt actions, it's very helpfull to load easily. The threading is so weird (square threads ???), is it like this on any 1903 ?
@precisionmachineshed
@precisionmachineshed 2 жыл бұрын
@@br4713 Yes on all 1903's, 1917's and 1914's. I'm a big fan of the cone. I get coned nosed bolts on most custom action I order.

Pacheemayr and thought it was PACHMAYR ? Again gun smithing school maybe they could teach you to pronounce placemats I mean Pachmayr.And you don't know why the cartridges dump out instead of staying in place let's see if you took the rifle apart and look from the magazine well do you notice how the 30-06 is made to fit with the longer cartridge it needs milled out so the cartridges fit in the receiver straight instead of wanting to jump out!

If you make pronunciation errors in your video, it will get more engagement from grammar weenies. Is a good trick to get more comments. Works, huh?
