My teenage son is our chief DIY-er and he says the most important skills he's learned are 1. Squirt it with WD40 and 2. If all else fails, whack it with a hammer. It makes me chuckle when you do those things too! Great job on the toaster, thanks for sharing

@@baire702 yes it is a water displacement to prevent rust but it is also a lubricant / solvent “WD-40 is an American brand and the trademark of a *penetrating oil* manufactured by the WD-40 Company based in San Diego, California. Its formula was invented for the Rocket Chemical Company in 1953, before it became the WD-40 Company. WD-40 became available as a commercial product in 1961. *It acts as a lubricant, rust preventive, penetrant and moisture displacer* . There are specialized products that perform better than WD-40 in each of these uses, but WD-40's flexibility has given it fame as a jack of all trades.WD-40 stands for Water Displacement, 40th formula.”

You really are very talented and clever at being able to do electric elements and make screws and bolts etc. The restoration was really interesting to watch, I love your videosthey are brilliant. The flexible hose that contains the wires between the top and bottom was rather rusty, so you blasted and polished the outside. But what about the inside? How much rust was in there, and what can be done for it? I suppose you could point the sandblasting nozzle into the hose, but obviously it can't go against the polishing wheel.
@AntiqueVintageRestoratioNs7 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, it is not possible to show everything in the video. If I show everything, this will be a video of more than 1 hour. I take sections from time to time, of course I cleaned the rust everywhere. Thank you for this nice warning and your attention. I use it safely.🖤🖤🖤

This may seem like a crazy question, but can an iron skillet be reseasoned with sunflower oil?
@AntiqueVintageRestoratioNs6 ай бұрын
First you need to remove the old seasoning from the pan. You can season it again using sunflower oil.
@nataliegray80196 ай бұрын
Cast iron can be seasoned with any oil that has a relatively high smoke point. My go-to is usually vegetable shortening because it's easy to apply (just rub it on like a paste) and is virtually flavorless. Whatever you can afford and/or are comfortable using should work fine.
@SeekingTheLoveThatGodMeans76487 ай бұрын
A toast to your restored toaster. One thing I'd wonder, however, is why WD-40, which is a rustproofer not a rust breaker. I'd think to use some kind of vegetable oil, which won't require any kind of cleaning except normal household cleaning.

I got a tetanus shot booster right after that. (Great video though)

That was difficult to watch, just a bodge job. Amazed it worked and even more amazed you cooked on it what with all the rust that was on the bottom half AFTER the so-called restoration.

After the cleaning process is completed, there is no trace of rust left. Rust already forms on many products in our house and we continue by cleaning it. It was very delicious. Thank you for watching and liking the video.

Not to mention the rust is fake, painted copper paint. Watch a few videos about fake restorations and come back to this video you’ll see the outer coat of “rust” is cooked/boiled on with copper paint 😂
