I consider this bouncy little number one of the true classics of the era. I can imagine that our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will still be enjoying it 50, even 100 years from now. It is ageless and it is marvelous.

Interesting music! Con Conrad, listed as one of the composers of "Big City Blues" also wrote "The Continental". George Olsen at one time was married to Ethel Schutta, who I discovered via "Follies" in 1970. They had a son together. Olsen died in March of 1970 while "Follies was in Boston for its out-of-town opening. Thanks for posting these.

Bob, I'm going back and reviewing some of your "Golden Oldies," of which this is one of the very best. These are three fantastic selections but tops for me has always been: Earl Burtnett and His Los Angeles Biltmore Hotel Orch. - Wedding Of The Painted Doll. This group will probably be the most enjoyable ten minutes of any day you land here.

Lovely to hear the original 78s, not filtered or digitised, scratches and all. They were not issued in UK possibly at the time; we would have had cover versions, though. By any chance, are the vocalists named on the records? Very often on UK issues, it was shown just as "Vocal Refrain" or Vocal Chorus".

the noises to which you are referring are NOT inherent to the masters...they are due to the pressings being made improperly and or mutilated when played even by state of the art playback devices at that time

@pax41

It should be in my opinion but it varies quite a bit. The music compositions from 1923 and before are in the public domain, 1923 actually starts on 1/2019. The sound recording is a different animal and by law they may still be protected until 2067. I think I have that year correct. However, in the US their isn't any federal copyright protection for pre 1972 works, only at state level. It can vary from state to state. In recent years both Florida and New York supreme courts have ruled in favor of them being in the public domain. I think the law should be set up like the one in the UK, it is fair. All sound recordings from the mid 1940's and before are in the public domain. However, that doesn't stop others from trying to copyright it but it only applies to their unique remaster. I do all my own transfers and remasters, so these are mine. There is a lot more to this topic so you should search it Alexander.
