Whilst on the subject of deceased parents , the elderly lady in this video who started dancing to the band , was my mother ! Her theatrical name was Shirley Donald. She passed away in 2011 from lung cancer aged 94 years. She would DEFINITELY have approved of my posting this comment , and her performance in this video was very much as she was in real life. PS : I would like to thank everyone for their interest in my mother's appearance in this video and have just rediscovered another video in which she also had a role. This is titled " Eat Red Meat Old People's Band " , which is quite remarkable in that I did not even recognise her at first !

I'm a Canadian from Vancouver, but this song brings back such great memories from the summer of 88-89 when I worked and lived in Australia. A few years later, I had it played at my wedding back home up north in Cranbrook BC. Everyone said..."Love that! Who is it?" Great song, great band.

greg you speak a truth that brings back so many memories and creates a bond between us because we are 1. 1927 fans and 2. canadians and Australians that resonate with a natural connection that’s obvious from the experiences of so many of us Australians overseas and plain from the words you write.

When I was a teenager and lived on a farm in outback Australia, I had a crush on a boy named Andy. The singer in 1927 reminds me of him. I imagine he's singing to me personally. Now I'm in my early 60's and I still feel like I'm that teenager each time I hear their songs.

The US think us Aussie's are all backward yobbo bogans that live in grass huts, with no technology or electricity. This is our own music genre, Aussie Pub Rock & all our bands were so underated & never given a chance. Look at Cold Chisel... That's why they wrote the song You Got Nothing I Want & was aimed at America lol

It's all either based on Jamaiacan Music or White Music from The American South though. That or British AOR. That being said although not culturally authentic persay,Oub Rock wad h8gyly distinct and unique in how ot mixed and oricwssed these ideas. I can always tell that I'm listening to Australian Crawl and not Ultravox,Ijahman Levvy,or Lynyrd Skynyrd. I guess the same is true for some Canadian Media. The USA was unique for a British colonial settler state along with The Caribeans (Jamaica,Trinidadian Tobego for instance in that we very clearly so have our own unique cultural traditions. Australia's tend to be more patchwork (same with Canadas) much more directly but it doesn't same Aussie Bands bad by any means and it did have a unique style to it.

I grew up in a small beach side town in Northern New South Wales, Australia. It was an idealistic childhood surrounded by many close friends who all seemed to feel a sense of innocence, the late 80s and early 90s in small town Australia was still a time of great innocence. My friends and I would come together surf, hang out, drink beer and chase the girls we liked. I remember being 15 and 16 years of age hanging out with my closest friends, walking to the nearest pay phone with guitars and serenading the girls we liked down the phone line singing this song. In this day and age of great cynicism, it may seem very corny and cliched but at that age, in that time, with those people it was nothing short of amazingly memorable. I miss those days!

How did I miss this great group in the 1980s? I may be in the States but I knew all of 'Ice House', and his many albums by heart. The one treat is finding them now and its all new to me. I get to find a great band with great songs from the 80's and its all new music to me. 1927 Wow.

Watching this video makes me time travel to simpler times where a lot of our grand parents were growing up in country Australia. Everyone knew one another; weekends were times for spending with family and neighbours; mothers raised children and sowed their own dresses while fathers worked hard, grew vegetables and raised chooks. Holidays like Christmas and Easter weren't commercial back then and had an extra layer of magic and respect. Ballroom dances with actual bands were common then too. It is here that some of our grand parents, then teenagers, might've awkwardly eyed one another in a different sense for the first time.

I adore 1927's music. I was 16 when this came out and I believed that this depth of love was out there waiting for me to make it real. I'm 45 and I've never felt this deeply for someone else. I guess now I never will. This song still brings out my inner 16 year old who had hope. Then the song finishes and I file that hope under "It was never meant for me".

Don't give up, it's not too late. I met my guy when he was about 60. Like you, I hadn't experienced depth of love as I had imagined until I met him and I only met him after a twenty year relationship was ending in divorce. I hadn't wanted the marriage to end and I wasn't looking. I still had hopes of salvaging the marriage even though proceedings had been initiated by my then other half. It was coincidence that I met someone new, our meeting was unforgettable and my heart's been with my guy in his 60's ever since. Good luck.

Classic and still so kool, we had it good here in the 80s lots of great bands and the live scene was thriving..it was the thing to do, get out any night and see a live band! Wow..how things have changed, anyone remember The Corner hotel in Richmond Victoria?? I used to busk in Hawthorn Victoria..on Glenferrie road, I was the first person to busk there, the local council had to make a PERMIT for me..lol..it was a Posh area back then and nobody except me had been either brave enough or poor enough to go and busk there 🤣🤣🎸🎶

It's bizzare that they weren't huge in the USA, they love music like this, think of Bryan Adams for just one similar example, and the huge success he has had, and if there ever was a movie theme song, this is right up there with the best of them.
