Fletcher Henderson equaled then and equals now the best instrumental jazz has to offer...the clarinets alone are incredible, and those played as a double by the sax section, the arrangement’s tonal color and incredible performance by the musicians remains more than just remarkable to this day. Perhaps one of all recorded music’s greatest offerings was Henderson’s “Sugarfoot Stomp” (1931)...a young Coleman Hawkins delivers a tenor sax solo that is one of my very most favorite solos in all of jazz...yes, indeed, what a band.

That Livery Stable Blues with Joe Smith then the immortal Tommy Ladnier playing trumpet solos - then goes to Bailey, Harrison (the father of the swing trombone IMO) and Hawkins all playing well. One of my all time favourites since I recieved as a gift The Spund of Harlem as a 13 year old from my parents. It is my favourite version of that old chesnut As always, great sound on both sides!

One of the reasons the Fletcher Henderson Orchestra was one of the innovators of not only jazz, but the big band sound. He wrote compositions for his band and others, including Paul Whiteman's. Truly a legend.

A most creative Jazz Band even with undisciplined musicians who came late to rehearsals or would avoid them. Were geniuses anyway!

Yes -- exactly! I tried Firefox and IE8 first and had problems with both. Chrome was my last choice, and it worked great -- and the sound is amazing! It's simple and fast, and I now use it as my default browser. Ebay surfing has become so clean and quick.

Great record! I'm using Chrome now. IE8 & Firefox were driving me crazy with glitches. Chrome is bare bones and built for speed. Not as many fancy add ons but fast and reliable, so far at least. Just DL it and then make it the default server. You can keep the others on the back burner in case you don't like Chrome.

KZfaq is encouraging people to update their browsers. At gun-point, I converted to Google Chrome -- and WOW! ...what a difference in sound! If you are looking for the ultimate audiophile experience, I highly recommend (free) Google Chrome. It is the perfect handshake for KZfaq. ...and much faster loading for everything.

@SatchmoSings I too would rather hear old recordings "direct pickup" than by webcam mic. But don't let's be hatin' on the vintage phono guys. There are as many who are into the machines as the music - probably more, once you get outside the jazz field.

Google Chrome is a new browser -- and it can be found at "Google search." ....for a free download. KZfaq says, shortly, they will not be compatible with some of the older browsers.

He has a great Viva-tonal phonograph so the record is reproduced as it was originally heard in 1927.
