About the heads near the ceiling: Henry the VIII started that little tradition. He wanted all who came to visit to know that he had eyes and ears everywhere so he knew what everyone was saying about him. That's how they got the name "eavesdroppers". This was after his demeanor changed and people had to walk on eggshells around him. Just a wee bit of historical trivia 😊

I love exploring abandoned places. There was an old shack in the woods that I found about 15 years ago. It belonged to the 98 year old woman who ran a store just up the road but she no longer lived in it. Everything looked like it was frozen in time. Dishes, fiurniture, dolls, blankets. Omg you name it. But when she passed away, her grandchildren ransacked it and took everything. It was so beautiful at one time.

What an awesome example of a 30’s Tudor house! It should be restored! I certainly would not focus on that tacky furniture in the drawing room! The people who built this estate would have had fine furniture that went with the architecture! Those floors that you mentioned are original.

I would love to go into a place like that and straighten it up so it looks like it might have when it was originally abandoned. Get the trash out, vacuum the floors, dust, clean the windows. etc... I guess that's not popular. It might make some good before/after videos.

I agree with you. In all of my years watching abandoned place series, I have observed only 2 explorers who take the time to bring back a few homes back to their original glory. Of course, this is after the hoodlum low life's go inside and dishonor and disrespect property that doesn't belong to them. The majority of explorers I've watched walk over family photos rather than bother picking them up. Then they leave doors and windows opened so the elements and birds can become trapped and the elements further destroy the home. Makes me ill to see these lowly character attitudes.

Wow… yep. Thermador appliances today are tens of thousands of dollars. Also, I noticed the brief moment the camera panned past the built-in refrigerator. That was probably a SubZero fridge. Not sure if Thermador made built-in refrigerators back in the 70s like SubZero did. And it looked like the refrigerator door had been removed and stacked over to the side. This would have definitely been considered a high-end kitchen decades ago. SAD…

This home is such a unique and beautiful pad. And God bless Mr. Smith for his graciousness and service for our elderly. He was surely a soldier for God. Working for the betterment of humanity rather than joining the ranks of Satans army. May he RIParadise. Ranger Rick, did I hear you say it doesn't matter if you're religious as long as you are a good person? I would like to clarify something. While it is always good to be a decent human being, no doubt. We will ALL one day be accountable for all of our actions. Good works alone do not merit salvation. While Im certainly not religious, (religion alone doesn't even give you salvation) I am a born-again Christian, and according to Gods word, the only way to heaven is to become born again. John 3:3 explicity states Noone can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again. If you are a believer, take heed, especially because you never know when your life might be taken. If you weren't born again, eternity would not be a place I would want to be. Something to ponder. Great home, Rick. Thank you for sharing.

It would not surprise me if this was once a church. The specific arch of the windows and the balcony overlooking the main room. That would have been for the choir and a piano or organ. Those closets across the wall were for the choir robes. That main room and the cellar are original. Everything else was an add on later. Did you notice the live edge wood? The ax marks on those big beefy beams too. Very aclectic although it looks like a Tudor from the outside. I believe you mentioned Mr. Smith was going to be clergy of some sort but chose the path of elderly care. All the statues make a lot of sense to me. The law books were very interesting. Old. Perhaps his father and or mother were first generation immigrants. Either dad practiced law or was just interested in it due to being an immigrant. The house likely reminded them of their country. That therm-a-door oven is high end for sure. Someone is mowing the lawn. Lol. Also looks like someone attempted to start renovating. A sad yet inspiring story. Clergy generally devote themselves to God, a life of poverty and helping others. He found his calling. I’m sorry it never came to fruition.

Hi, I was born and raised in Houston, Texas, but my mom and dad were from Rayne and Crowley. My 1st cousin was Jimmy Baronet - he was Lafayette Eyewitness new man. :) My maiden name was Doiron, my mom's was Planchard.
