Beautiful automobile! I've always been a fan of the Packard. Such a eye catcher everywhere you go. I grew up around antique airplanes and automobiles of the 1920s thru 1940s. Fantastic video! Keep 'em coming please.

My grandparents could have had anything but they chose senior Packards. I learned to drive in a Caribbean. Fond memories.

If you're only doing 50 mph in a '32 Super 8, you're loafing. I've got a '29 633 Club Sedan and it can cruise at 60 mph all day. She can get up to 75 or 80 if you're feeling daring, but it tends to bounce around a lot at those speeds and the rear end gearing is a bit stiff for those speeds. Gorgeous car.

I recently bought a 29 Super 8 chassis with engine, trans, front & rear ends but nothing else. I have the 384 running & have just located a bare rolling chassis with wheels & a few other parts in Utah that I'm heading down to get it tomorrow. I plan to build a period correct speedster if I can find enough parts like a grille, hood & a steering box. Is there a club for these cars?

My father was given a 1932 Packard Dual Cowl Phaeton TwinSix (all later years were simply called V12) 905 for his 21st birthday in 1933. Sort of the same story as Harlow, $5000 cars were a hard sell in those days except to the very rich. Dad was at Princeton and picked the car up at one of the east coast dealers. He had been warned about the 500 miles breakin period where you're supposed to drive at varying speeds. Being 21, he knew better, and decided to drive straight to Grand Rapids, MI (his home) to show his dad the new car. Of course he didn't make it because the engine blew and he was stranded. Thankfully for dad (really for grandad) Packard stood behind their product and fixed the engine. And you know what? Dad carefully followed the breakin procedure on that engine. By the time I came along (1955) that Dual Cowl Phaeton was long gone but it was ALWAYS the car he loved most. I remember in the 60's when "Santa" found a metal 1/12th or 1/16th scale KIT of the 905 V12 version of that car and dad found it under the Christmas tree. Dad spent months prepping and painting the parts just like his had been and then loving assembling everything. He made sure all the things that were supposed to work in the kit did. That means the doors, the rear cowl, the hood and the steering. That model got placed next to one of the other joys of his life, the 25" color TV in the family room he bought the day AFTER the astronauts landed on the moon. Somehow he infected my much older brother with a love of pre-war Packards although Jay fell for the late 30's Clipper model with the straight 8. He had 3 while he was finishing college (one which he made the mistake of leaving on the street in front of our house which some street urchin turn into a slide when it snowed). While I'm not sure I don't think he ever got any of those driving. They were all gone by the mid 60's. Then in the mid-80's he found that the Mexican Consulate in Arizona was selling the 19 Packard Clipper LIMO. Again it had the Straight 8, but this thing was a BEAST of a car. IIRC it was over 21' long. It had the divider behind the driver. It had a AM radio/intercom to the driver. You could fit 3 across in the back and if that wasn't enough you had jump seats that pulled down from the divider. But the paint was sun baked and when it ran it wasn't very well. He always panned to get it running and flip it but the getting it running part never happened for him and he ended up selling it for a loss.

Luxury with Refined Opulence and Sophistication was the hallmark of such cars like this. The High Society Rich could afford Cadillacs, Marmons, Packards, Dusenbergs, Pierce-Arrows, as Status Symbols. They wanted to be seen hobnobbing with the whos-who of America at all the best Top Hat & Tails night clubs, elite social functions, and parties, theater debuts, where the press photographers would show them arriving in grand style. In a way, it was egregious conspicuous consumption self-indulgence during a time when millions of others were unemployed, struggling and broke. Yes, these museum pieces are a marvel to behold - but only a lesser Cadillac brand remains out of all the aforementioned marques. When I was born, my parents were driving a 1941 Packard 180 Super Eight four door-eight passenger, limousine. What an era.

Too bad about the 'a duesy' plate. They were below Packard standards. The three P's ruled the scene at the time; Packard, Pierce-Arrow, and Peerless. Duesenberg wasn't in the same class. My Dad had a 1930 Packard Dual Cowl Phaeton that he bought new, just after the Crash. My uncle bought a used Duesy when he was 16 (~1934) and loved it, naturally. I wish I had either car right now! :)

“Duesy” plate on a Packard?? Tacky. Just be proud to be a Packard and don’t pretend you’re as iconic as Duesenberg.
