Although collectors worldwide knew the whereabouts of this car, the owner, reclusive Dr Harold Carr, refused to listen to offers for it, instead in 1960 he locked it away in his garage never to be seen again for almost 50 years

I would have thought racers courtesy and the earls explicit request would be the answer. Kind of a giant screw you to the guy.

What a truly remarkable and fantastic video... Whether you like this type of car or not- it is the whole history behind it-the story captured me from start to finish. These stories never fail to keep me in awe. This one in particular was very well done indeed - even the tunes were so fitting-just wonderful to listen, read and watch. I wish the doctor could see his beloved Bugatti now- back to her former glory-I assume,he would have a smile on his face..... Maybe.......maybe he does see her - who knows.....

he knew when he bought it he got the best car deal in history. One of seventeen and all. Lots of cars like this got sold by rich Lord's suddenly faced with radically increased income tax rates and as a result their toy car collections were bought and sold like baseball cards. Dr Carr was just smart enough to keep it safely stored for posterity.

Many similar cars got raced to destruction. Many more rotted away without being sold many more horribly customized then scrapped. It's insanely rare that a st like this ended up in hands like his.

Superb video!!! Many thanks for all your work on this history sharing event. Though a lot folks would not agree with the car being fully restored...I fully enjoy seeing what they looked like in their original beauty. As for the luggage rack being left on...guess one could say that this Bugatti is the only one with a luggage rack on it...making it even more rare. It's all how you look at it. Again...thank-you!

Classy rendering of this story... Chopin's scores fit perfecty with the shape and breathtaking beauty of the car. Very good job, TheExStig. Well done. BRA-VO!! For your next video on a similarly beautiful car, think about using Debussy's Reflets dans l'Eau, Fauré's Barcarolle or Ravel's Jeux d'Eau in support of the video: unlike Chopin (who was half French, half Polish), these three were 100% French, and all would fit marvelously with the French style exemplified by the car you might want to feature... like a Bugatti Type 57 Atlantic, a Royale or a Hispano-Suiza H6B for example? Just teasing... Kind of...

The description says, "collectors worldwide knew the whereabouts of this car" - but I got the impression that the relatives were surprised to find it in his garage - IF they did not know he had it, until they opened the garage, I would love to have seen the face(s) of whoever opened the garage and found it! Whether they were surprised or not, this is an interesting story about an awesome car. And I am always amazed that anyone has millions (or even hundreds of thousands) to spend on one rare car. Must be nice.

I would have kept the body as it was in the lock-up garage and done only what was needed to make it roadworthy. I had a 1954 Citroen Light 15 that came out of a barn in Quebec. I restored it mechanically but left the body as it was which was actually pretty crummy. Dents, holes drilled in the fenders, the paint was flaking off. It had a past and I liked it as it was as it showed its history from South Africa and Botswana. A kid crashed into it at a crosswalk near Toronto. The insurance paid to restore the body like new, but I didn't like it so much after that and sold it off. Once an old car is painted, you have a shiny car but you have lost something that you can not recover.

So glad the purchaser restored the car to its former glory. It's ridiculous when certain barn finds are kept in deplorable, rat infested, condition I understand that a car can only be original once, but that should apply to cars that have been kept up since new. Few can fathom what a beautiful car like this should actually look like unless someone cares enough to restore it. Great video! Thanks for going to the trouble of making it.
