my great grandfather was the head foreman of the truck and bus division that built the futureliner. when he retired GM gave him a large metal model of it..though i don't know what happened to it after he passed away. every time i see one of these beasts it reminds me of him.

My grandfather Bill Barnes was a mechanical engineer for GM an involved with the Parade of Progress in 1936. I remember him showing me photos of the dreamliner and how proud he was to be a part of it.

I had the pleasure of sitting in the driver's seat of this beauty before it left Auburn to head to a show in Florida I believe. Last summer. Such a cool piece of history.

Outstanding! I have vague memories of the Futurliners at the Minnesota State Fair in the 1950’s(I think). When I saw the restoration on TV it gave me hope that projects such as this help tell the automotive history of the United States as well as the predictions of things to come.

A great video, and a heartwarming story. It evokes memories of a time in America when life was simpler than today, but dreams were bigger.

Absolutely fantastic. I think I saw one once but can't remember for sure. I was raised in the 50's and 60's around cars.

I've heard of the General Motors Futurliner. I've seen pictures of the awesome bus, but I've never seen one up close and in person. I'm glad to see some are being restored and preserved. I can see these things being used, if nothing else, as rolling advertisements today. I'd leave as much of the vehicle as original as possible, but I'd also upgrade it with things like a Duramax Diesel engine, modern braking system, electrical system, etc. I'd also like to see it made in North America. :)

I appreciate the response back! It's truly a beautiful truck. I had no idea how rare it was until i researched it for the video. ALthough only a small section of it is of the futurliner.

Dayton Ohio loves Charles Kettering. So much so, there's a suburb named after him. I don't think they know about this tho.

This puzzles my mind: If each of the front wheels has its own ball bearings and drum brakes, how are the brake lines fed to the outer wheel brakes? Why does every expert say 12 Futurliners were build, if only 10 max of them can be seen in any of dozens pictures? Ok, there is a picture of a vehicle with plate GM-11, but that does not prove much, since as far as I know no picture exists where all 12 are shown. Dear commenter, are you able to provide the evidence? Thanks in advance!
