3 жыл бұрын

I purchased this 1940s Marx Seversky P-35 Toy Fighter Plane on eBay November of 2020. It was missing the propeller and prop mount up front, the paint was basically gone and rusted away. The rear wheel had been replaced with a really poor rubber wheel. Overall this was a perfect restoration candidate. I made many new parts and nickel plated most of them. The propeller mount I made out of a tube and capped it then powder coated it. My sand blaster clogged up a little bit during filming and I had to take it all apart to clean it out. Thanks again for watching!

I just picked up this same toy earlier today from a local toy dealer. The plane has the usual nicks and scratches on the paint, with just a bit of surface rust. It's missing the rear tire under the tail, but the plane has no dings or dents, and everything else is there. I spent an hour cleaning the orange nicotine residue off of the plane (previous owner must have been a smoker), which made the paint much brighter once I was finished. Overall, it's in pretty decent condition. I was pretty excited to see that you have a video restoring this very same plane! Once again, an absolutely beautiful restoration.

I was absolutely PRAYING for a sheep at the end and my prayers were answered. He even had little goggles and a hat! 🥲💗this is by far one of my favorite videos from you (that was some sexy sandblasting, as weird as that sounds). This is such a wholesome channel and the care you put into these restorations shows. Amazing as always 🥰

Here's what really grinds me. Back in the day these toys were considered cheap because they were made of mostly pressed tin. Fast forward to today, and the toymakers claim that it would be too expensive to use pressed tin today, even though manufacturing methods have improved. I'm calling B.S. these toy companies just don't want things to last anymore. Heh! Just realized that the sheep at the end had a pilot's hat on. Good show! Merry Christmas.

Great restoration. I've seen a couple where the restorer started with a plane that was plain silver ( as were most planes in those days ) and painted it all kinds of gaudy colors. The work was good but it didn't look right to me in the end. Glad to see that you kept it the same colors.

Been binge watching your channel. You do an amazing job of restoration. The right tools help and unfortunately most home hobbyist don't have Lathe, CNC and Mig or Tig welders at their disposal. Kudos on you. The only detail I noticed you missed on this one is the new propeller you made did not end up with a pitch on the blades, of course it is just a toy!

I am actually beginning to have my doubts about a couple of _other_ channels (not here--too much detail and actual work). It seems that rust patterns, e.g., from item to item are too strangely consistent, and there are other elements on those channels that whisper "faux restore." Anyone else have misgivings like this? Thank goodness Chip Channel's around. I get such a relaxed feeling watching and appreciating. BTW, the sandblasting changes the metal to a buff-white. Is this straight tin or some other alloy? Anyone know?
@TheCoffeehound
@TheCoffeehound 3 жыл бұрын
@@josepherhardt164 Probably mild steel. The finish you get from media blasting depends on the media used. It looks like he is using either garnet or aluminum oxide media, which has sharp corners and edges which will give that buff white look. Glass beads give a duller look. There is also ground up walnut shells and corn cob media, but I've never used those.

Beautiful job 👍. Here’s a bit of airplane history or trivia. Seversky founded by a European aeronautical engineer went on to be a part in the design of the “follow on” to the P-35 which came about during that period of time when aviation technology was rapidly changing. The follow on was the P-43 Lancer and later came the P-47 Thunderbolt which was produced by Republic. Sit these 3 aircraft side by side and the family resemblance is apparent. Especially with the earlier P-47’s that had the glazed (Aluminum) canopy frames and not the “Perspex” tear drop shaped canopy.
