Thank you Periscope for this Video . Here is Part of the story of Vacume Oil Refinery 1866 . If you look on Google maps aerial view you can see the original site of the Refinery , its a Brownfield with abandoned Buildings . Rochester , N.Y on the west Bank of the Genesee River across the River from Mt Hope cemetery , North of the U of R . It is still there and you can see a Rail road grade that used to cut right thru the site . Prior to the Rail road the Genesse Valley Canal ran thru the Refinery . A rough History about 1899 Standard Oil bought Vacume Oil . Between the 1880s and 1911 the Govt tried to break up the Monopoly of Standard oil . Socony is Standard Oil Co Of New York , a Child of the Break up . Mobil was a company that was bought by Standard Earlier . In 1911 Vacume oil was taken away From Standard by the Govt anti Trust efforts . The companies still may have been owned by Standard but operated as separate outfits ? 1931 Vacume Oil And Socony Oil Merged . 1955 Moibil Oil Company Moved in . Keep in mind all were at one time owned by Standard oil . In The 1960s it all Became Mobil . We still have those Metal Pint Cans with the Mobil Red Flying Horse in the basement and the Garage that held additives . My Old Man Drove Oil trucks in the 60s hauling Mobil Fuel Oil around . He used to make three runs to Buffalo to the Mobil Refinery in Buffalo to Drop ship a Tank load of Fuel Oil to Factories and Dairies . He also Drove a small tanker delivering Heating oil to the houses in the Neighborhoods in the City . The Heating Oil Company ( Langie ) was Located right next to the Huge Mobil Tank Farm That can be seen by the Airport . It is much smaller today than the 1960s Mobil Tank Farm across the Erie Canal from the Airport . I hope this Helps if someone is Curious about the Names ?

SOCONY is an acronym for Standard Oil Company of New York.

Yep. In 1955, they changed the company's name to Socony Mobil, because too many people assumed they manufactured vacuum cleaners instead of refining oil and gasoline (and created a new logo in 1957). In 1966, they dropped the name "Socony", and the company became Mobil Oil Corporation.

A damn shame that Periscope feels the need to display its counter over the film when there's so much room at the sides.

ere's the issue: Tens of thousands of films similar to this one have been lost forever -- destroyed -- and many others are at risk. Our company preserves these precious bits of history one film at a time. How do we afford to do that? By selling them as stock footage to documentary filmmakers and broadcasters. If we did not have a counter, we could not afford to post films like these online, and no films would be preserved. It's that simple. So we ask you to bear with the watermark and timecodes. In the past we tried many different systems including placing our timer at the bottom corner of our videos. What happened? Unscrupulous KZfaq users downloaded our vids, blew them up so the timer was not visible, and re-posted them as their own content! We had to use content control to have the videos removed and shut down these channels. It's hard enough work preserving these films and posting them, without having to spend precious time dealing with policing thievery -- and not what we devoted ourselves to do. Love our channel and want to support what we do? You can help us save and post more orphaned films! Support us on Patreon: www.patreon.com/PeriscopeFilm Even a really tiny contribution can make a difference.

@@PeriscopeFilm Well, you don't actually own the footage, as it's either orphan works or public domain. So is someone "stealing" it from someone "stealing" it to begin with really that much worse?
