Sad this was their last game in Cleveland.But like John Elway the Ckeveland Rams went out like champions.Then moved to LA in 1946.

They moved from Cleveland to Los Angeles on January 12, 1946, and back to Los Angeles from St. Louis exactly 70 years later to the day, on January 12, 2016.

And then in 1950 the former Cleveland Rams played Cleveland's next NFL team in the championship game.

Cleveland had championship football teams every season from 1945-1950.

The QBs for both teams are HOFers Bob Waterfield and Sammy Baugh.

Yes, but Frank Filchock came in at quarterback for the Redskins after Baugh re-injured his ribs in the first half.

The coldest NFL Championship Game in history other than the Ice Bowl in 67. The air temperature was 8 degrees below zero at kickoff. The Ice Bowl was -13 I believe. Many of the Packers players said the 62 Championship Game against the Giants in Yankee Stadium was even colder than the Ice Bowl because of the 40-50 mph winds swirling around Yankee Stadium

It was so cold the sidelines were filled with hay. Since sideline heaters didn’t exist the players buried themselves in hay to stay warm. This game, the 48 and 49 NFL titles were played in the following. Sub zero temperatures, then a blizzard, then a monsoon like rainstorm.

After this playoff game, the Redskins would not make another postseason appearance until 1972 when they appeared in their first ever Super Bowl and lost to that great undefeated Miami Dolphins team.

Before 1946, an incomplete pass behind the goal line was ruled a safety, that happened in this game by Redskins passer Sammy Baugh in fact!

Thanks I was wondering why a safety was rewarded I figured there was a holding call on the play. Turns out that was the difference in the game

They need to bring back that rule. Making it even more meaningful when teams down a punt with in the 5 yd line.
@jameswilson77905 ай бұрын
@ronnieimburgia4986 At the time, if a pass from the end zone rebounded back into the end zone after hitting the goalpost, a safety was awarded to the defense. The rule was changed at the next owners meeting, and in 1974 the goalposts were moved to the back of the end zone.

So ironic how the Rams win a title for Cleveland but are basically run out of town by the Cleveland Browns who wouldn't start play in the AAFC until the next season. Then both those teams meet for the 1950 NFL Championship Game the first years the Browns are in the NFL.
