I forgot how cool it really was- owned a 50 Ambassador with 2 speed hydramatic+2 speed overdrive. The overhead valve six had 7 main bearings-which was advertised as "New" by Detroits big three in 60's. I could run at 95 mph all day.

Two things: The valve tappets are loud, especially for a flathead 6. Attention needed there. Most of Today's reviewers are gushing over these Unusual Nash and Rambler models, because they are Such a Novelty. And that's just "It". They were such a novelty back in the day, with their odd, bulbous body shape, the quite Exaggerated fender overhang, which appeared to Swallow the tires and wheels, and the lack of Directional feedback when turning and making other maneuvers, was reported to bother women significantly more than men. Some would say it was an Odd Duck. Others felt it was a Blimp and handled like one. Nash corrected some of the more minor aerodynamic issues, only went so far, and left the more serious aerodynamic issues to be dealt with by somebody else. It was a "Little Bit" quieter; a "Little Bit" Softer; a "Little Bit" smoother, but it certainly did not achieve the aerodynamic numbers of modern-day cars. It was a stab in the right direction, But Not a Big Seller. With its Odd look, it didn't sell very well and you see these models redesigned quickly....

These were good selling cars, record breaking sales for Nash! They were also light weight and economical with borg warner overdrive [20 to 25 mpg]

8 Volt system? Why?
@dlwatib6 жыл бұрын
No good reason. A six volt system maintained with proper six volt wiring works just fine. But if you try to substitute modern 12 volt wiring you will have problems. You need the thicker 6 volt wiring.
@stevefarris94335 жыл бұрын
I believe it is a six volt and all the early bathtub versions had that system.

It was for cold weather starting. My dad had a 1953 Dodge pick up with that system.
