It's amazing how these guys get original cars. Someone has an eye for this. These cars are history kept original for us to see.

Quite a find Jeff, this one is really worth being restored. I agree the Mercury's of that time period look similar. It has been a long time since I have seen one. They were a high quality car.

We had the duplicate to this car.I remember going into the Packard agency in Trenton, N.J. with my Dad and this car was setting on the showroom floor. Dad said that I want this car for mother. He bought it on the spot. I believe he paid $3500.00 dollars at that time. What a great car!. That hood ornament was extra and cost $25.00,we had to have it!

Wow that hood ornament would be considered a weapon today. A stunning example of automotive art unrestored. what a great find and starting point, if you wanted to do a little more restoration or not. Nice find .

That's what I was going to say. You can open it on either side with the lever inside the passenger compartment by the doors in front. The best feature is the radio. Best sounding system you'll ever hear and it's AM radio. The tubes. We lived on 43rd. Starting up by simply pressing the gas pedal we'd proceed to the red light and the light would turn green. The car ran so smoothly you didn't notice if it's stalled. Perhaps the radio was on. That happened more than once. A man wanted to buy it for my mother it was no sale. I came home from school where's the car what do you mean she called the police a week later they told her they had towed it from her parking spot and she rescued it from the impound three times. I saw the car and I knew it was mine. I was in 6th grade that had mail in it and I brought it home to my mother. He had papers proving it was his a 1949. They didn't have automatic transmissions then and she had the two speed hydromatic. Powerful vacuum windshield wipers had no power climbing up the steep Federal boulevard Hill up to Loretta heights in Denver. He used the police to steal our car. I had personalized it with the cigarette lighter on the speedometer without going through. The little rings of the heating element perfectly centered on the speedometer was a feature not found on any other car. Proving to me it was mine. Having friends in high places willing to steal and cheat. Seemingly that's how you get ahead in this country. Not the first time in my long life I was robbed.

Packard had 3 series in 1950: Eight (135 hp), Super (150 hp) and Custom (160 hp). I believe this is either an Eight Deluxe Touring Sedan if the swan hood ornament was an added option or a Super Touring Sedan. The Super Deluxe models and Custom series had "egg crate" grilles, which this lacks. 1950 was the second year for Ultramatic and the first year it was available on all models.

My old Parmacist down under had something like this after WW2, export to Australia must have started quickly, don't know what sized engines were in these, it looked great in white.

I see a clutch pedal. Does that make the transmission a "semi-automatic"?.....It reminds me of the first car I ever drove. A 10 year old, beat up 1953 Dodge, with its semi-automatic, 2 speed transmission.
