I've restored quite a few old footballs nothing this old put several from the 60s & 70s and what I do is remove the bladder and the laces and submerge it in a bucket of tide laundry detergent for about an hour then i give it a light brushing with the kind of brush you would use to scrub a bathtub or tile with but you don't want to do a great deal of scrubbing most of the dirt will pull out while soaking after that I rinse it plain water then let it dry for 24 hours once dry I start conditioning and what i use is murray's beeswax it's actually a hair product but it works great for conditioning leather I work the murray's in with my fingers and palm then I let that soak in for 24 hours then I will condition it again then after the second round of conditioning has soaked in I will replace the bladder and lace it up I find it so much easier to lace after the leather has been conditioned it helps prevent splitting holes end the laces won't have that wavy look because the leather is more pliable

Do you also use this process for autographed balls?
@Sportsfan4life25 күн бұрын
@@victordankens4342I don't know i haven't tried I'm not an autograph collector but if you're trying to get rid of an autograph this process would help along with a little acetone to thoroughly remove the autograph

Neatsfoot oil works wonders for new and old footballs. Tried it on my new one and wow what a difference. 9.99 at a local tractor supply or amazon

B Field Great suggestion, I will definitely try that. Although I don’t recommend putting oil on a new football, I certainly can see how restoring an old leather football could benefit from your suggestion. I have some Neatsfoot that I use on ball gloves, I’ll give it a try on a project ball I’m currently working on. Thank you, I’ll let you know how it works.

What do you clean the leather with?
@curmudgeonmcgrumpass9499 Жыл бұрын
I used hot water and saddle soap, and followed up with a leather conditioner. I would love to hear of any suggestions for a different product or procedure if you might have a one.
