Best of luck. For a Wurli, you've got a reasonably good example. Not to broken up inside. If you want to get the wax off the strings, use ice. cool it down and flake it off. Careful with the legs if you move it around. They really don't support the keybed in motion.

My son has been thinking about training to be a piano technician, unfortunately now, my 6’ Everett grand piano is in pieces and I’m waiting for him to put it back together!!!

What an undertaking! Good so far. I skipped through the video so I didn’t see the level of measurements performed. But to get to that point is a lot. Must have taken many hours and many more to go. Great job.

Yes, many hours especially since it was my first time. Next time I level keys I'll get one right BEFORE I put the 87 other felts on!

It's coming. I have't started yet, need to save about $200 to get the next round of tools. I'm hoping to get started early next month. That will be hammer reshaping and regulation of the action. Past that, another $200 for dampers and a few more tools. After that, I just need to do some cosmetic work.

I've seen and heard many spinets in my life, but this is the first one that actually sounded good. I just assumed they sounded out of tune from the factory! 😆
@familypiano9531 Жыл бұрын
In tune, it really does sound unique. I'm almost afraid to shape the hammers because I know the tone will be affected. Here is a professionally restored piano that is nearly identical to mine: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z7d1mK-lu5OlonU.html

Do it! I’m a 21 yr old tech and it’s such a fun gig-oh and if you never mentioned that you were retiring soon I would have thought you were 40 haha. Though you definitely did pick the hardest form of upright to start on! Love my Wurlitzer 140a electric piano-good luck!! Edit: I noticed the minecraft song in there I think, so I thought you may like this very rough super Mario cover i noodled with: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ns9xrJmDz6myf3k.html

Thanks! It doesn't seem too hard since the keys don't have to all be disconnected from the drop action rods. It is a military retirement, so not retired retired. Just an opportunity to do something different. The "Minecraft" song is actually a song from my Bastien adult beginners book. Page 95, "Morning Mood"

My fallboard is miss a clasp on one side so it doesn't work. Thusly I play without it and love the sound. That sounds outrageously good for a spinet, Of course I did not hear A0. LOL I tune my own piano, but pulling the action seems a little tricky. I'd like to remove the keys checking the bushing. Just the real easy stuff.
@familypiano9531 Жыл бұрын
Pulling the action isn't too hard, but I can see it being nerve wracking on a piano you care about. That's why this free piano is so great... If I wreck it through incompetence, I'm only out my time. I do really like the sound. Hopefully I don't ruin it when I shave the hammers later this month...

Could you make mention of the cost of some of the parts?
@familypiano9531 Жыл бұрын
Sure! $60 for the tuning kit: www.howardpianoindustries.com/professional-piano-tuning-kit/ $52 Keyboard Punching Set www.howardpianoindustries.com/keyboard-punching-set/ $4 Piano Damper Springs (12) www.howardpianoindustries.com/piano-damper-lever-springs/ $4 Piano Damper Flange Cord (1 yd) www.howardpianoindustries.com/piano-damper-flange-cord/ I still have about $200 worth of consumables to buy (damper felt, balance rail pins, backrail cloth, fallboard felt, plus possibly some high treble hammers if there isn't enough felt left after shaping the hammers) Also about $400 in tools to ultimately buy, and $70 for a copy of Pianos Inside Out.
