Another great episode Randy. Rear Window and On the Waterfront sit at the top of my 1954 movie list. I also like the little seen film Suddenly starring Frank Sinatra and Sterling Hayden. I believe Pledging My Love by Johnny Ace came out in 1954, that would be my favorite song. Earth Angel by The Penguins would be my runner-up. Enjoy your vacation. See you when you're back.

Good Evening Randy - This was another good year for me with regard to films. I have two of my top Hitchcock films. At No 1: “Rear Window”, with James Stewart and Grace Kelly, & at No 2: “Dial M For Murder”, with Ray Milland and Grace Kelly. At No 3: It’s Humphrey Bogart and Jose Ferrer in “The Caine Mutiny”, Dir: Edward Dmytryk. I have always enjoyed these three films and have watched them repeatedly. My other notable films are: Marlon Brando and Karl Malden in “On The Waterfront”. Not a film I watch a lot, but still a classic film of its time. I am also a fan of many film adaptations from the novels by Jules Verne. “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea”, being one of them. I have always like James Mason playing Captain Nemo. I also give mention to Fritz Lang’s thriller, “Human Desire”, with Glen Ford and Gloria Grahame, and the science fiction film “Them!”, with Edmund Gwenn. “The Bridges at Toko-Ri”, with William Holden and Grace Kelly is a good war film from this year. I do also enjoy many films starring Alastair Sim. In addition to “An Inspector Calls”, the 1946 thriller “Green For Danger” is a real treat, also stars Trevor Howard. I was on the edge of my seat waiting on your next musical (!), I though you might have gone for “White Christmas”, alas not... lol, the suspense continues... I have heard of the Ronald Howard “Sherlock Holmes” TV Series and noticed that all 39 episodes are on KZfaq. I will check them out. I am a huge fan of the film series done in the 30’s & 40’s with Basil Rathbone & Nigel Bruce. Looking forward to 1955. Have a great week and enjoy your vacation.

Hi Randy. Once again, I’m enjoying listening to your choices. I guessed your favourite movie as we both commented on it recently…..I have the Ronald Howard Sherlock Holmes set too. I haven’t watched them all yet but find them very entertaining. When I found the set I wondered why I’d never seen it on tv when younger but it seems that it was made specifically for American tv. Enjoy your vacation

I've got one album by Mose Allison, a compilation on Prestige that I thrifted for very cheap several years back, I've had that in mind to spin again lately. Do not think I have ever heard any Joe Turner. 12 episodes per season these days, sometimes it is even less lol. You may have to bend the rules about debut TV seasons only if you make it into later decades, seems to me there were certain shows that started out fair or not even that great but got better as seasons went along. Cheers!

I have that Chet Baker album, I’ll have to get that out, now that you’ve reminded me.. your blues and r&b choices are great, but the dorky pop side of me ultimately wins: “Secret Love”, by Doris Day, “Rose Marie” by Slim Whitman, (I’m serious! lol), “Young At Heart”, Frank Sinatra, “Stranger Than Paradise” by Tony Bennett, and “Sh-boom”, the Chords version… my favorite films of that year are, “On The Waterfront”, “Rear Window”. Fellini’s “La Strada”, “Sabrina”, and “It Should Happen To You”, with Jack Lemmon and the great Judy Holliday.. Enjoy your vacation!

1954 was another good music year. The LP was really starting to hit its stride. At the rate things are going, the 1960s might be a letdown.

I know a few tracks from some of these records. I have seen Seven Samurai, many many years ago. I don't think I have ever seen any version of A Star is Born 😔I have that Sherlock Holmes DVD!
