I had a 61. It would only do 50 flat out, but it was a cool vehicle. I wish I had never sold it.

Front axle used CV joints and warn brass/steel hubs, they had a 1/4 inch thick steel skid plate to protect the gas tank and around 3/16th inch welded skid plate on the oil pan. a geared transfer case Hi neutral Lo, drum brake on the rear drive shaft, three speed forward one reverse transmission with a power take off it having both front and back shaft, 226 cubic inch continental nearly indestructible straight six, oil & wire mesh air filter, single barrel carb using mechanical linkage that pushed the float down into the bowel as a acceleration pump. 7 by16 tires. want say 10 front and eight back narrow leaf springs, It weighed around, 3600 -3800lbs, topped out at about 85-90 on flat paved. Mine was a 1961 looked the same but had 12 volt system when I got it, as remembered got around 16-18 mpg average.

I have owned 3. A 55 wagon, a 58 panel delivery (side windows but double rear doors) and 56 pick up that had been featured in the now defunct Classic Trucking magazine. Will always refer to them pronounced as willies. Retired to Ecuador 11 years ago. Referred to here as the WIllys Rural and later Ford Rural with a slight front end redesign and there is a 58 wagon in our area I have been trying to buy for the last decade 🙂
