I thought you might like a look at this very impressive 1956 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible. This car has undergone an extensive frame-off restoration and once you are up close, it's easy to tell. Under the hood, you will find the numbers matching 365 V8, factory rated at 305 HP. The suspension consists of independent coil springs in the front with a live rear axle and 4-wheel power drum brakes. Other options include: AM Radio, Auto-Convertible Top, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Power Locks, Power Seats, Power Windows, Leather Interior, and Wide White Walls Tires. This car is not only highly desirable, but also rare. They made just 2,150 in 1956. The paint, chrome, and interior are in showroom condition. I hope you find it interesting, thanks for watching!

With a jumping bass and off-beat syncopation, this is straight from Memphis' Beale Street. The Hammond organ and electric guitar play together as longtime friends, while the melody changes hands from guitar to organ to electric piano. 011

A beautiful car indeed. American cars of the 1950s, the most gorgeous automobiles ever produced. What memories I have.

After a few moths of watching these kinds of videos, especially Lou Costabile, I cannot believe how stunning the cars of the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s really were. No wonder the public was so excited to see the new models and what a time to be alive. I think if I had to pick just one decade, it would have to be the ‘50’s. I have seen so many just gorgeous cars from the 50’s, like this Cadillac for instance. There was such an optimism after the war and right through the 60’s. You can see it clearly expressed in the wonderful artistic designs and endless unique and gorgeous colours. Now, I have always been a car guy, but my interests were limited to the current cars and the ‘60’s muscle cars until recently. It might sound corny, but I’m so glad that I strayed into the ‘40’s and ‘50’s. It was a real eye opener to see what I had been missing all along.

My Uncle had a cream color 1958 Coupe de Ville with cream leather interior and A/C. It was a simply gorgeous vehicle, and I loved its tail fins and overall shape much more than the '59 or any other year Cadillac. I actually think that 1958 Coupe de Ville was one of the most beautiful automobiles ever produced.

GAWD!! It is Beautiful. If Cadillac produced a modern version of this design today with today’s safety and technology I would take one over a Mercedes, Bentley, or Rolls in a New York minute. My first car was a 1951 Coupe Deville I bought from my father for $200 bucks. I traded it a couple years later for a 65 Mustang. I enjoyed the Mustang but , now, looking back I wish I still had the Caddy. And the Mustang too while I’m wishing.

One of my friends in high school traded a "54" Vette he owned straight across for a Black "56" Eldorado Biarritz. A bunch of my friends thought he was nuts, but I thought it was terrific. It went faster than hell, unlike the "Vette" with it's 6-cyl and Powerglide transmission, and several of us could ride up to the ski areas in it. It rode like a dream and, yes, it could "peg" the speedometer!

56. Eldos had 57 find. The scoops were for the A/V very very rare on convertibles in 56. Bumper bullets we're called Dag Mars. For a busty movie star. Wheels were called Saber wheels either silver or gold very rare.

Beautiful car, and my favorite color. A convertable with air conditioning in 56 was super rare ( I guess the compressor was removed but the scoops are there) . Thats what makes it more disappointing for an Eldorado enthusiast like me ( I own the same year car, but an Eldorado Seville model) to see the chrome seat crests that sit in the middle of the white bolsters are missing. ( A standard for the 56 Eldo) also I noticed so many 56 models like this one remove the finishing piece of stainless that completes the door panel. Yes, after restoring the door panel it never sits flush any longer like it was originally, but it completes the door panel

I am not so sure on the "factory A/C" part. Yes, it DOES have the 2 air scoops on top of the rear trunk area, but as you noted there is no A/C compressor/condenser in the engine compartment. And since they didn't open the trunk, there is no way of determining for certain if it was equipped with A/C. The evap unit/blower motors would have been where the top folds down into. Kinda weird for sure.

That was the heyday of American auto manufacturing. If it was possible to go back in time I sure would love to spend a few yrs back in the mid 50s. Not sure if I would go back forever but I sure would like to experience the 50s first hand for a while. Being a car lover & a psychologist (and a dreamer) I would to see the cars & the culture first hand.

The scoops on the rear quarters are air intakes for the air conditioning. The evaporator (cooling fined unit) was in the trunk, two blowers would pull air in the scoops we see and blow the cold air into the car from the rear thus no air vents in dash like today's cars. The condenser (fined hot unit) should be in front of the radiator but is missing so is the compressor that should be in engine compartment. It looks like sometime over the life of this car the condenser/ac hoses/compressor etc. were removed. They should be replaced if this car is to be truly restored. The air scoops are still on the quarter panels because they would "not" have been so easily removed. We don't know if the cooling evaporator or blowers are in the trunk as it was not opened, too bad, hopefully they are there.

I understand that these early-mid 50's caddy a/c systems (which you describe so well), were subject to frequent problems, were not easy and expensive to repair....does that sound about right?...thanks..
@donvanote
@donvanote 6 жыл бұрын
My parents had a '54 Olds 98 for a while, it had the scoops as well. As it was a 4-door, the ac vents inside were in the ceiling, above each car door.

I did realize AC was available on convertibles when the evaporators were in the trunk.
@LynxStarAuto
@LynxStarAuto 5 жыл бұрын
daniel lack The AC systems on these cars were very similar to housing units. In the trunk was a huge box with the evaporator core inside, and the discharge/expansion device. At the front was a condenser, and the compressor. Copper tubing connected the system together. The biggest issues are always those copper tubes leaking, and electrical gremlins. Otherwise, pretty straight forward system.
