In this video I pull our latest find, a 1956 Cadillac Sedan Deville, out of its backyard grave. Once we get it home, we throw in a battery and see what works and if the engine will turn over.

Great year for the Caddy. More metal in one bumper than in entire cars these days.

Yeah for sure. Most younger car people seem to be in these new POS computerized, emissionized, safetyized crap cars that are barely even cars at all. I'm a 58 year old mechanic (mechanic, not "technician") and I've brought quite a few of these old cars back to life. Unfortunately due to medical issues, I've done my last. I still have the last 2 I put back together, a 1972 Pinto woodgrain wagon, and a 1964 Fairlane four door. The Pinto came missing the engine, transmission, and quite a few other parts, and despite the fact that it is fairly new compared to most of these old '50s and '60s cars, It was a nightmare to find parts for. I still tinker with them, but I'm not going to take on another project. That car would look great with chrome smoothie wheels in the STOCK size. I've used them on 3 old cars and they look great. Not too expensive, and they are solid, with no see through parts so you can't see all the rust and muck behind them. I wonder if that has a standard 5x5.75 Chevy bolt pattern?

It's amazing to think there was a time when big huge monster cars like this were all over the place. I was alive, but of course didn't appreciate them then because - well - they were all over the place!

Your videos are fantastic! I love this Cadillac that you're assembling and am checking back every day to see if you post another great update on it or any of your other cars, since I've already watched basically all of your videos. Its also great to finally find another car guy on KZfaq that's located in Texas. Keep up the great work!

Did someone save that old Chevy as well? I've watched all of the Caddy videos and absolutely love what you've done with that beautiful classic. So good to see someone that respects the beauty and character of those cars rather than trashing them out like so many people do making retrorods and crap out of them.

Thanks for the info, that is very good to know! I had seen online that some other 1956 Caddys had a lamp on the lower part of the rear bumper that was amber and covered the whole entire rectangle, and assumed those were the regular ones, but I must have had them mixed up. Either way, I hope the bulbs inside them work!

Awesome car ! I have been looking for a 54-56 Coupe for years. They are just a bit out of my price range. Since me and my friends are older and bigger, a big four door actually looks a little more inviting. I have found a few Sedan 's I like, I just need to get rid of a few project's. Also a few years ago, the bumperettes on the rear corners were going for around $1,400. I Like the few video's I have watched so far.

Very nice! Congratulations. Only because looking for fog lamps was mentioned a few times in the video, I'll say that the car does not have fog lamps. The optional, somewhat rectangle shaped '56 fog lamps would be located in place of the round park/turn lenses and their aluminum fillers.

That might have worked on a smaller car on a larger trailer, but we had like a half inch of clearance on each side. We even had to resort to taking one of the trailer fenders off because the car was soooo wide. The rockers would have been destroyed if we had done it like that

Jim again here, I just watched the first video of you bring the Caddy home. When I see that air cleaner in trunk I was so surprised but as soon as I seen it I knew your Caddy had the two four barrel carb set up on it. I'm sure you know by now that it came stock from the factory like that! My only wish was that I could hear it start up. Do you have a video of that and the sound of those carbs sucking air when you goose the throotle??? Man what a sound that was! When I would drive it to high school, I'd remove the air cleaner on the way to school. Then cruise the high school goosing it . Is there a video #3???

Ben, Stay with it my friend Cadillac's are way cool. The weather strip issue may be solved if you go to steel rubber. You can google it, or go to www,steelrubber.com. Then I notice you may live in the Dallas area I would suggest looking up honest John's Cadillac. They're in the Dallas area and you may have some luck there maybe. Finally you need to be just keep googling for Cadillac Restoration places, there out there. Cadillac's are the Standard of the world as the advertisement went, not very many people could afford them in the day so therefore these cars aren't going to be quite as easy to restore like Chevy's and Ford's. But if you hang in there and you don't give up you will really have something there in the end. That 56 is the first year of the four door hard top quite thing for 1956.
