My dad had a 300 utility loader backhoe the same exact machine you have your backhoe swing has been modified the original swing was a single cylinder that used a cable that went around a mandrel then went over the cylinder to swing the boom

Awesome video. The Henry backhoe and loader are a rare find. Henry Manufacturing has an interesting history. It was the first company to figure out that putting a "ditch-digger" called a backhoe and a downsized loader together on a tractor would create a very useful mobile earth moving tool. (It certainly did become useful).John Deere, International Harvester, Ford and Allis-Chalmers thought it was a crazy idea. Caterpillar and Case literally laughed at the thing. The rest of the story truly is history. I am excited for you to get the old "hoe and bucket" back in shape and working. When my brother and I were 6 and 7 years old, Dad would load us up in the truck and we would go to state fairs in Kansas (our home state), Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma to show folks that "even a kid can run a Henry". Dad was Albert Henry, and he came up with this whole idea after he got out of the Army Air Force in 1946. There were some interesting twists and turns regarding how the whole thing turned out. The key to the venture was a (then) new way to use hydraulics. Best of luck with your restoration. Beautiful place you have. Interesting, I have a Henry 1 yard hydraulic towed scraper. Got it for $75 on internet auction and went to Kansas from Wisconsin to get it. I wonder what they all manufactured.

That hack job on the steering isn’t surprising. The stock steering boxes in these tractors don’t really hold up to loader use, and parts or good boxes that aren’t all worn out are pretty much made of unobtainium.

I think the 4th and 5th spline in the trans is not submersed in oil so its common for surface rust to stop that gear from sliding if it sits. Ours spontaneously worked after driving it around a bit and letting that oil splash around in there. You got your work cut out for you man!

Robert Henry, here. I mixed up your International Harvester 300 with Massey-Ferguson. Just switch them around in my post to you, please. Getting older has its pluses and its minuses. International was the go -to "utility" tractor in 1955. Masseys were used in 1955, as were tractors from Oliver, Allis-Chalmers and (sort of strangely) Ford's ubiquitous little gray machine. I was jealous on the first 300 pickup. This one you just picked up would be perfect for my property. I need to find a good tractor with snow plow capability, and backhoe attachment. I want to clear some of my woods to have a nice garden spot. I look forward to the upcoming videos
