This is crazy! Just this afternoon I went to buy an old one ton Chevy square body and there was a Willy's pickup in the weed's behind a machine shed and I said to myself "I'm looking at the wrong truck"

Amazing how capable these old Willy's trucks were. And probably more dependable than newer 4x4's for a lot of reasons. Just had to take things easy and let them do what they do.

They really are dependable if they are properly cared for and maintained. I don’t think we will see 70 year old YJs or the new Gladiators kicking at the age of these old trucks. lol Thanks for the comment!

Awl Right! I used to have that year truck. Mine had a Holmes 220 in the back. I had it for a very short time a long time ago. Never drove it much, never registered it. It had four shifters in it! That was cool all on its own. It was the one car in my life that I decided to sell because I needed the money back. First and last time I've ever done that. tHanks for your video!

Forgot to add. When I first went to test drive the truck it was in low and I was making a turn in a field. The steering was geared real easy....so when my front wheels hit on something the steering wheel whipped around like a ship's propeller. Caught my thumb and clobbered it. I was laughing for weeks because that thumb still hurt all that time later. Cool trucks

I appreciate the comment. I love these old jeeps. I buy and sale them a lot and I swear I get emotional every time I get rid of one. lol Im just trying to save as many as I can.

That is one good looking truck! We have a 56 Willys that was painted sky blue and has white wheels. It is a great truck to haul old garden tractors around in!

That is a awesome story! I love hearing stuff like that! The good old days when trucks were good and music of all kinds was the best. I've been wanting a older chevy for a while myself.

@@redclaytraveler1949 I had a 47 pickup and 59 wagon. Then I went throw a divorce. Okay If want to do the up grades, like disk brakes in the front and auto adjusting in the rear good. I was machinist. Retired now, so I will rebuild the engine. Tell me how much you want for it. I will sell some stock, it will hurt but that is okay.

I believe its the timing chain making the sound. It went away at higher rpm when the chain tightens up.

Nice truck , were the Six cylinder models all 12 volt or was it converted by an earlier owner ?

Not all 6 cylinders were 12 volt. I believe they switched to 12 volt in 56 or 57.

I tought ‘56 model has the center grill bar near to the top one.

I have seen them with both the normal grille and the high bar grille. I don't know if the grille was changed over the years since it was made or if they made some 56s with the regular grille. It appears that they let a lot of things slip through the cracks when it came to little design updates from year to year.

Can you buy a complete body minus the hood and fenders and doors? If so i may end up doing that to build a custom rig

No one makes bodies for trucks unfortunately. You could find one on a rolling chassis pretty easily. A guy in Tennessee has a cab for sale now, unless he sold it already. It’s on market place on FB.

@@redclaytraveler1949 how much would a rolling chassis go for in reasonable shape? I dont mind dents and dings and all that, i just hate rust repair with a passion. Im in maine

I really couldn’t tell you. It varies from state to state. In Georgia everything is expensive. lol Rust free would probably have to come from out west. That’s where I find them anyway.

Check Craigslist and market place in Texas, Arkansas, and California. I know it’s a long way from you but there are solid trucks and bodies out that way. Anytime buddy!
