Terry: Outstanding. Looks like the roads were in pretty good shape. Really too bad that Mother Nature sometimes has different plans. Your chain issues has me thinking that I might throw an extra one in my bag when I finally make the trip. Again, I certainly appreciate your insights and really look forward to these videos. Best to you - Sean

Thanks so much Sean. Yes, I always wonder before I take a trip...where do I draw the line at how many and which extra parts I should bring with me. With my luck, I'd bring parts I don't need and not have the parts I do need. What a quandary! Always enjoy your comments and thanks so much for your loyalty.

Just found your channel as I have just bought a Africa twin 🎉,anyway it’s the first time watching a bike video with music over the riding I haven’t switched off & now watching ep 4, very easy to watch & listen to your commentary, keep riding & doing what makes you happy 👍

I really appreciate you hanging in there and sticking with the videos (not switching me off). I am aware that people do click away from videos when they start hearing music, but I have a hard time leaving constant wind noise or other irritating sounds in my videos. I also try to go a little easy with the music too. But again, thanks for sticking with it. I think you're going to be very happy with your Africa Twin. I have a couple other videos that are focused just on the AT on my channel too, that you might be interested in. Here is a link to one of them - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hJiZhKiXm5_ah6c.html I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. Good luck with your AT!

Well done. Great video I was riding on the Dempster in August. The weather changed very quickly and I had to turn back to Dawson too. The mountains on the Dempster look like no others Ive seen before.

Will, I think I recall you mentioning that before and I've thought about that ever since. It's so disappointing to get that far and have to turn around, I sure know what that feels like. Will you be giving it another go? Thanks so much for the comment and watching. I really would like to know if you'll try again. There has to be many others who had to abandon their trip just like us.

Thank you for another fantastic and inspiring video series. I’m looking forward to seeing how this trip finishes. I see all your trips as huge successes - your flexibility has allowed you to make the most out of your adventures. The original planned destination really doesn’t matter that much. I’ve commented previously on your videos, and still believe they’ve been the most inspirational to me. I started riding about 3 years ago on a VStrom 1000XT Adv. I also have added a small dual sport. Between the 2 bikes I’ve got nearly 30,000 miles in. Neither bike has had any significant issues. My adventures to this point have all been in the western USA. I’ve been thinking of changing my chain and sprockets on the VStrom preemptively. Your experience will make me do that this winter (rainy season already started in the PNW).

VT...Yes and I truly appreciate always hearing from you and your loyalty is so very much appreciated too. It's the comments like yours that keep me motivated to continue doing these videos. I would have stopped doing them had I not gotten any positive feedback like yours. Thanks so much. So, tell me, how are you liking the XT to this point?
@vtrack1963
@vtrack1963 Жыл бұрын
@@TilTheRoadEnds I really like my XT1000 Adv. I’ve got 24,000 miles+ on it, and plan to keep it. The only issue I’ve had with it was the OEM clutch side heated grip failed. As a result, I removed the original heated grips and replaced with Oxfords. With regard to riding it, the bike is very smooth and a pleasure to be on. When I bought the bike, I didn’t really know how or where I wanted to ride. Over the last 3 years, I’ve learned I like riding it like you ride yours in your USA/Canada videos. Mostly paved surfaces with the occasional good gravel roads.

The horror of making that decision to cancel it after all the preparation you and Kevin did. To me it would feel like big anti-climax and a waste of time and money. But thats nature, she always has the final word. I was lucky enough to be close to Denver this year when the blizzard hit there. well, let's see what 2023 brings. Top video as always Terry, pleasure watching it.

Thanks Erik. Yes, that was quite a snow storm we sat and watched from my living room window. We'll see what happens in 2023 for sure. Anything is a possibility. As usual I really appreciate you sticking around so long and watching all these years (I remember your very first comment on my channel..."you have The Hook of Holland in the wrong place on your map"). Maybe my videos will help fill the void now that Itchy Boot's series is finished...maybe fill the void just a tiny, little bit (I can't compete with her)!

5 go pros but no spare chain on a chain drive bike. Was the chain new when you left? I'm guessing no. Poor planning
@TilTheRoadEnds
@TilTheRoadEnds Жыл бұрын
HR, I'll start at the beginning. Before I left on this trip, I had the motorcycle shop go over the bike with a fine tooth comb. I told them..."think 8000-mile trip". They did a number of services on the bike, then gave me the thumbs up for an 8000-mile trip. However, when I returned home from the trip, I took the bike back in and they admitted the tech got really busy and overlooked the chain during the service. I keep my chain clean and always lubed, so there appeared to be no issues with the chain as far as I could tell. But if the tech had taken a closer look, he may have realized the chain might have issues. But once again they did fess up that they missed the chain. Next...YES, 5 GoPro's, a drone, plus several cases of other camera gear, computers, backup drives, charging equipment, camera mounting gear and much more...because that's what I do...I make motorcycle movies. THAT'S MY HOBBY! I'm not a guy that just hops on a bike and rides. A person with the passion I have (motorcycles and videography) has to make certain risky decisions in what I think I'll need and what I think I might not need, because there's only so much room in the Panniers, top case, tank bag etc. and only so much weight you can safely carry on a bike. It's nearly impossible to guess what might breakdown on a bike during a long trip like this and due to the chain misunderstanding...a spare chain was not on my list. I already carry many other parts and tools with me just in case, but I have to draw the line somewhere with both motorcycle parts AND camera gear. In closing, I hope you can see that the story isn't always as it seems. The way you worded your comment was as though you were scolding me. You could have easily just asked..."why didn't you bring a spare chain?" and I would have politely explained.
