Bob Martin (actually Leo Heppe ; born June 7, 1922 in Krasnoyarsk , Siberia ; † January 13, 1998 in Vienna ) was an Austrian singer and musician .
Heppe's father came from Bohemia and was taken prisoner in the First World War. After the war he stayed in Russia as a German teacher, where he also found his wife. The couple left the country with two-year-old Leo because of the Russian Civil War and, after detours, finally came to Vienna.
Heppe was a member of RAVAG 's "Russian Hour" opera studio in 1950/51 and a singer in the choir of the Vienna State Opera from 1951 until his retirement in 1981 . In addition, he was also involved in other musical genres during these years: among other things, he supported the hit combos Die Montecarlos and Die blau Jungs . In 1957 he starred alongside Grethe Weiser in the remake of the 1934 film classic Once a Great Lady . He also worked as a singer on recordings of several operas and operettas, some of which are still available in new editions today.
In 1957, Bob Martin was selected internally by the ORF to be the first representative for Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest in Frankfurt am Main . With the song Where to, Little Pony? written by Kurt Svab and Hans Werner. However, he had little success: with only three points - one from the Netherlands and two from Great Britain - he ended up in tenth and last place.
Leo Heppe was buried at the Ottakringer Friedhof.
Lyrics:
Wohin, kleines Pony?
Wohin, kleines Pony, woll'n wir reiten?
Wohin soll mein Lied uns heut' begleiten?
Zu deinen Herden, den kleinen Pferden?
Dort sind die Täler unendlich weit
Wohin, kleines Pony, woll'n wir reiten?
Wohin soll mein Lied uns heut' begleiten?
ENGLISH:
Where, little pony?
Where, little pony, do we want to ride to?
Where should my song accompany us today?
To your herds, the little horses?
There the valleys are immensely wide
Where, little pony, do we want to ride to?
Where should my song accompany us today?
To the green pasture, there in the moorland
Where once I've kissed, at the time of roses
Today is a day only for both of us
And you and me are carefree
Who else sees the world as beautiful
As beautiful as we see it?
Where, little pony, do we want to ride to?
My song will truely acompany both of us
And through the fields, the wide fields
It sounds in the wind, how happy we are
Today is a day only for both of us
And you and me are carefree
Who else sees the world as beautiful
As beautiful as we see it?
Where, little pony, do we want to ride to?
My song will truely acompany both of us
And through the fields, the wide fields
Sounds for both of us, my herippihei
