This is a 1957 Chevy truck sitting on a 1990 dodge cummins chassis, 5 speed 1 ton 4x4, added quite a bit of sound deadening under the hood and inside the cab, it helps make the truck more enjoyable to drive.

Thanks Rusty! When I was younger I dreamed of a 55-57 Chevy 4x4 truck, never thought I would ever own one, the Cummins is the icing on the cake! And it's more then I could have ever ask for.

I love it when old and new are mixed like that I think it turned out really great! Glad you did a video on it.

i like the front fenders with the larger wheel opening, i have an original '55 chev truck and a '97 one ton dually with 12 valve, ya got me thinking!

I liked the first gen dodge cummins trucks for these swaps, everything lines up perfectly, the second gen truck would need the motor shifted forward to keep from having to cut the fire wall out. The big front fenders made the truck. I’m running 35” tall tires on it now and still no suspension lift.

Thank you. It's hard sometimes having a vision then trying to make what you have work. It's great when fit and function comes together. Not every project works out as well as this one did.

Hi Fred, the chassis I used was a 1990, I fit perfectly like it was made for it, from what I had found with the second generation dodge cummins trucks were that the motor sits farther back on the frame, if you don't move the motor forward you will have to cut out the fire wall, I've seen this done before, the good and bad about using the second gen, you do get to use the inter cooler, the bad you loose floor space in the cab and the shifter will come through the floor next to the seat, on the first gen all I had to do was remove the clutch fan then machine the threaded shaft from the pully then cut the radiator support to move the radiator forward, the rest was typical.

Great build man.....Lookin' to do a panel right now...good info on the placement of the Cummins compared to 94-97 models with the P-pump...Didnt know that part...figured Id be a cuttin' and weldin' this and that. Ive been checkin' wheel base measurements....which are good now...but I knew that the engine bay/compartment was gonna be tight no matter what. Thanks again for sharin' !!

Haven't had the money to justify an ididit steering column in my '71 Ford as of yet. Great job on your truck.
@wildbuggy65865 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliment. I had the modern column but it just didn’t look correct, and I couldn’t get the single bulb tail lights to work correctly so I needed it.

I have a 1957 Chevy truck and very undecided the direction I want to take this project. It had Chevy 383 stroker in it. But I'm also a diesel head own 1999 dodge 3500 24 v. I just don't want this Chevy truck to end up like the others. I do have a mind a 4bt with manual nv trans. But not sure about my frame taking the weight? though about looking for a donor 12valve 3500 and try fit my cab into it?

I have a question. How is the diesel noise level in the cab?
@wildbuggy65862 жыл бұрын
It’s not bad now, it took me a while to get it quiet enough to listen to a radio, I had to put under hood sound deadening, along with in cab on the fire wall and along the back wall, foot wells and a padded sealing insert. I’m planning on cloth or vinyl door panels. I’ve driven this on a few 12 hour trips and it is comfortable enough but want it a little bit quieter.

What about a GM Duramax diesel engine for the 1957 Chevy 4x4 truck? I thought that suggestion is your vintage 50s truck is great with a GM Duramax diesel engine. There is nothing wrong with that.
@wildbuggy65864 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! A duramax would be awesome, quiter and lot more power then I have in this truck. I went with what I had and knew the Cummins motor. The first gen Cummins is not much stock, but I like the fuel Milage and it will run forever that way. I get in this truck and head out to utah, Nevada Wyoming and others states around the western part of the country and this truck feels like it was just built, I appreciate that I can rely on it, not saying a duramax wouldn’t do that because they do, I’m just a simple guy.

I have a 1956 chevrolet 1 ton hauler and I am looking to set it on a 1995 dodge frame dually 2wd 5 speed.. it does have a intercooler.. I've done some measuring and it's going to be pretty close to the fire wall..anything imparticular you had to do the cab other then the cab mounts?
@wildbuggy65867 жыл бұрын
Hi Fred, the second gen can be a challenge because the motor is farther back in the frame, check to see where the center of the front axle in relation to the back of the motor and fire wall of the truck, you might have to cut out the fire wall or try to move the motor forward, first gen is a easier swap.
@fredfonseca45007 жыл бұрын
I will get that measurement and go from there! thanks for the response and the video!! awesome truck!
@wildbuggy65867 жыл бұрын
Good luck with your truck project I spent a lot of time measuring, measuring and measuring some more, The dodge I used was my daily driver, it was hard to make that kind of commitment with out being sure, also try to find the front fenders from a 2 ton Chevy truck, the wheel openings are bigger.
@wildbuggy65867 жыл бұрын
I just remembered that I had to get a aftermarket voltage regulator because the gage cluster in the dodge has a small computer that is part of the stock regulator, try to use as much of the dodge wiring as possible for the preheat and a lot of other things, dodge uses a electronic speedometer so you will have to work with that.
@fredfonseca45007 жыл бұрын
OK! great! I'll keep doing some research it'll be a while before I get it started.. I will definitely keep you posted.. I might try to get it on here!
