No they were not. They were without electronic and people told me that they were horrible to work on. New one can be reliable, I have a 2007 Daihatsu Copen with a hardtop convertible and never had any problems with it, and most people don't have problems with it either. And people knows how to fix them easy

FORD did not do it first. There was a French automaker in the late 20s or early 30s who came up with the retractable hardtop convertible. (it may be here on KZfaq or Google it) Oh, the first American car with this feature; the 1947 Playboy.

There's a guy in the Netherlands who hand built a 1958 Edsel Citation Skyliner that had a working retractable hardtop. Of course it was a fake ((built on a 58 Fairlane) but beautifully done, it looked factory!

There are a number of 'Edsel' retractables made. Some are really done 'right', but I've seen others which left the Ford 1/4s in place, so it was an 'Edsel' w/fins.

Beautiful 57 Ford the only thing I don't like which is my own opinion Continental kit. It makes the car look extended and harder to backup and park without worrying about your Continental kit getting damaged put the tire in the trunk in my opinion great deal love the car. MR WELSH

I hate connie kits, but on a Skyliner, the spare is under a trap door under the luggage holder, plus it must be lifted shoulder high to get over the rear fenders, I had a dozen 57-58-59 Skyliners, always had the spare in the trunk, understood when they weren't.
@NamVet68SigBn5233 жыл бұрын
Only real drawback was lack of luggage space. These were made to take on the road, a touring trip, You needed someplace for your luggage--the back seat doesn't cut it.

Such impressive beauty and engineering. Hmm those side rear view mirrors are sweet. I'm guessing they're aftermarket? They look like spot lights AND rear view mirrors in the other side..? Are they both in one? If so that's so bad ass. 2 in 1

Yes they are side mirrors & spotlights are they aftermarket. You can adjust them from inside the car with a handle that tilts and rotates them. Pretty cool.

It is now. But it originally wasn’t. Ford did not make a Meteor Hardtop convertible. Only a soft top convertible. And a hard top non convertible. Thus is a custom converted car. One of a kind. The car that didn’t exist.

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the German Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one state operated central gas station per city. From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any more...
