I learned to drive ours (2-ton dump) at 12 y/o. I had to scoot down to get the clutch pedal pushed in, put it in granny and just let the clutch out- you couldn’t stall it in first. Head down the dirt road feeling like a king! I’d pull it out of gear and stand on the brake with both feet to stop! Ours had the floor starter, too. I still remember that smell and sounds....

Kool truck , almost as old as I am. We had a short bed 56 Chevy , I loved that old girl as a kid , we worked on her after getting it around 1965. New brakes , master cylinder wheel cylinders the whole nine yes. She was used hard by us for a few yrs moving sand , shoveled must have moved 20 tons in total trips and small bed. Wish my pop had saved her for me but she was wanted by another. Really enjoy your vids a lot , thanks

Just like one of the trucks we had on the farm when I was a kid. We had a Chevy dualie and a Studebacker truck, both from long ago. I don't remember the years, but both were good trucks. I learned to drive at age 12 on the Studebaker. I drove a 1956 VW to school in the 70's, having fun at full service stations telling the gas jockey to be sure to check the coolant !

I'm here from the future to comment. I somehow missed this video until I watched the Unit 614 Crane Repairs part 5. (3-30-21) That's a fantastic truck! That 235 won't do anything for you in a hurry, but it will do it for you reliably for a long darn time., I'm a bit jealous. I know what you mean about the brakes on older MD trucks. I've got a 73 F-600 dump that's the same way. The brakes are great, then after sitting over winter there's nothing, right to the floor. Bleeding the master cylinder down at the Hydroboost unit, one pump brings the whole system right back to life. No idea why.

I'm guessing it might be a 261. I have saved 3 Studebaker medium trucks. 1 1/2 ton, 2 ton and a rare 3 ton. These workhorses of America have been overlooked by restorers.
