Today we remove all the panels from the Power Wagon. Hey Guys, this is my brother's 1958 Dodge Power Wagon. It's time to get this classic V8 4x4 truck ready for restoration. Made in the USA with American steel. Let's see if we can bring it back to life. ctmoog

Hey CT, it is so cold up here in PA. I am a Florida boy at heart. I went to school for chemical engineering at USF and eventually got my PhD. I would gladly offer my help when I move back down. I sold my house on Siesta Key when My mom got M.S. and I moved home. I really regret it now. I love seeing the sunny weather in your and Lord Duckman's videos....lol

You probably should spray all of the bolts/nuts down with Kroil, or even WD40 before you tackle them. For the steering wheel, I would try drilling out the holes for the next size and re-tap. Try using a fine thread tap first, as they require a slightly larger hole, and you might cut threads enough to pull the wheel. When I first started wrenching in 1959-60 I didn't know crap, but was willing to learn, and my Dad was a fountain of information, from when he was a farm boy about my age. My first procedure was to keep pulling out bolts 'till the part I wanted fell off! I remembered this when you were working on the bed!

Nice! Owned a 1948 Power Wagon panel truck. No syncromesh, no power steering, the air boost for the brakes had died long ago so driving it was a free workout every time. On one road trip a buddy tried to drive it and quit before we'd gone twenty miles.

Drill the next size larger hole into the steering wheel flange and tap them to that size, then use that size bolts to help remove the wheel. You might have to fabricate a few other pieces such as the steel plate that the two new bolts go thru. there is likely a large bolt the goes toward the center of the steering column to back the wheel off of the steering column shaft.

I have a 58 power wagon power giant, the frames are post war quality ,so i put mine on a 68 w 300 frame. the power giant were the fist 4 + 4 civilian made trucks. only made for 4 years, around 5000 made in total, your V8 is the first 318 big block or also known as the mini HEMI. It will be a head turner when you are done.

Yup. I was thinking the same thing. He kinda has to give the truck priority cuz it’s his brothers shop space. He probably saw CT doing all these projects and was like hey man fox my truck. But actually this could turn into a business for CT because his bro is his first customer in a way. A year ago no one would ask CT to restore their Classic not even a brother so it shows something that CT is getting request. That’s how a lot of small businesses start out.

I enjoy your videos a lot. I seldom add any comments but I should oughta as I'm 79 and have been around for a bit. Couple of things here. Most 6 volt system were positive ground. I have been seeing several videos recently where the guy doing the work obviously did not know that. Also, get some 6 point sockets. don't have to be impact sockets unless you are using impact wrenches. In this video there were several instances where the nuts or bolt heads were rounded off by using `12 point sockets or wrenches. 12 points are fine for non-rusted fasteners but they will cause extra time and effort on rusty ones. That's all minor, keep up doing what you're doing.

I’m not even gonna read the comments cuz I know there is gonna be a lot of negative Nancy’s. Everyone wants to be a critic but who is putting in work on their own projects and making videos about it…? I see your channel as free entertainment so why should I complain? If I don’t like it I wouldn’t watch it. 😁 keep doing what ever you want CT and people are still gonna watch so who cares. I would enjoy seeing at least one project get completed but again it’s free (kinda, I just got premium) entertainment and I enjoy watching your shenanigans.

The hard thing about it will be finding some of the parts. I wish you luck and maybe the two of you will can work on his truck. If the engine is not repairable, might just do a frame and engine swap with newer Dodge. You then could have all of the newer accessories and parts available with look of the old truck. Maybe even Hemi. This would leave you the body work to do. His call, his truck but either way it will be adventure.

Well, Mr. CT, here we are back again.. Damn, it looks built like a tank... I bet the thickness is at least 1mm if not even 1,5.. Did I guess wrong? Seems pretty straight forward, just a lot crunchy.. 🙃What else to expect on a 60+ years old machine for farm use?! Hehe, da, rusty crusty.. About the steering wheel: it should be mounted on a spline gear inset, so in your case, when the bolts threads are ripped or rusted, I would try to apply tension with some straps on the wheel hub outside upwards, as much as you can without ruining it, then with a compressor jackhammer and with a point, the same diameter as the internal hole, as flat as possible, vibrate it downwards. Obviously soak the crap out of it first with penetrator.. Heat is out of the game, unless you want to destroy all plastic parts. Given the situation, I strongly suggest you don't try to run or turn the engine, untill you crack the head and see what's inside. Missing spark plugs are a recipe for water and other stuff getting in, so ... emm...it's more than likely corroded to some degree. Cheers, keep on. 😉
