1958 VW Bus Road Trip, Part 4, Travel adventure, Old crank start split safari window hippie van!

I found this bus in New Mexico where it sat for over 30 years in an isolated desert location. We got it running then headed over the rocky mountains in this totally awesome cross county adventure. Come along for a ride with the family in the magic bus as we visit secret vw junkyards and long forgotten roads in the beautiful rocky mountain wilderness. This video is one in a continuing series about this amazing bus find. A must see for vw nuts, dead heads, hippies at heart and all those with restless rambling souls. I keep coming back to watch this '58 microbus adventure series over and over again. Hands down, the bumfuzzle channel on KZfaq are the best videos on da Web! I got a '57 single cab I like to hotrod around..and a '62 camper I drive a bit more delicately. Like JJwoodywood, it brings a tear to my eye, and like vwcamperFlatfour, I love safari windscreens. I may catch pneumonia when winter comes...I'm one to latch 'em down only when it's just too cold!

I am Brazilian and I really like this vw bus vehicle. Here in Brazil this vehicle is called " Kombi " and was manufactured by the year 2014. I travel a lot in my VW Bus. My respect for you . It would be wonderful travel vw bus here from Brazil to world.

A suggestion. Never grip the crank all the way around, thumb. If it backfires it will break your arm. I owned a 58' many years ago and I wish I still owned it. Old VW's never die they just fade away. You have choosen values for your family that few of us could ever give. I can see it n your childrens faces. God Bless you and yours.

The old Datsun 320 pickup trucks have the crank-start feature too...up until about 1966. They're ratcheted so if the engine backfires, it won't snap your wrist!

your vw bus video series is awesome !!i discovered them last year when i got my 74 vw thing..now that i'm old and retired,i just bought a 79 vw bus....did minor revisions to it and now i'm ready to hit the road !! i used your hand crank idea to start the thing..works great...hurry up and get an old bus so we can enjoy your videos...long live aircooled vws !!!

Great video! Thanks for sharing. My family visited 24 states, the Mississippi River, the Great Lakes, and Glacier in our '70 hightop last summer. We've done Alaska twice and have gone all over. I'm hoping to return to Alaska again next summer in my '63. My sons grew up exploring in our buses. Your kids are in for lots of fun.

Shame you don't have the Blade bumpers fitted........i have just finished a 58' Panel van......found out in Texas......brought it back to England...slammed it with a Porsche 914 motor.............4'' narrowed beam discs...ect.....found under the paint was the original dove blue and sign written...see it on ssvc.org.uk under projects and rides Mdcooperuk. good luck with it dude...
