Those ‘59 Chevys are like gold today, if you can find one in decent shape. Great ad!

Only after watching this ad did I realize that I've been misprounouncing "Remy" my entire life. I always pronounced it "Rem-E", not "Reamy". Live & learn.....

Delco-Remy employed 20k people in our Indiana town at one time. So sad it is all gone. A Ford dealership sits where one of the manufacturing plants once stood. What a world...

Wasn't there a Guide Lamp also in Anderson? I remember my uncle working there but it closed down many years ago.

Remy International still uses the Delco Remy brand user license from GM for starters and alternators. It is part of BorgWarner today.

@WitchKing-Of-Angmar2 жыл бұрын
@@trudygreer2491 they can skip the middle man and call it a mistake. Back when I sold Nashes, we would send them home with a model, an entire list for what to hope for, and an indepth television showcase. That was 1957-1959. Then I went to be a typewriter man in the offices.

Not that I would expect GM to do anything else but showcase Chevrolet. But the fact of the matter is, The Indiana Toll Road ran right through South Bend, Indiana and the Indiana State Police used Studebaker Police Marshalls with V-8 power that had all Delco-Remy electrical systems also.
@OsbornTramain3 жыл бұрын
I don't think the Indiana Police used Studebaker Products after 1958. They may have used them in 1963 when they had a bigger wheelbase. I know they tested them for 64.

Whether you like them or hate them, most people would have to agree that the '59 Chevrolet offered a lot of style for a low priced car. They were just so sleek and pointed the way toward the lower cars of the 1960's. And, they looked good whether plain or loaded, whatever the trim level. My father had a '59 Ford which was a good but relatively traditionally styled car. There was no sporty five dial instrument cluster in that car. And, the Fords had a separate rod for the shifter that was visible above the steering column instead of having the linkage built into the column like the Chevrolet. In little ways like this, the Chevrolet was more sophisticated.

Yes, but.. the 1959 Ford did win the Gold Medal from le Comite' Francais des L'elegance at the Brussels World's Fair for the Most Beautifully Proportioned Cars!

Nice patrol cars. As a former police officer, I'm not sure how you put 80k miles on a patrol car and do any actual law enforcement, though - seems like you'd be driving 7 hours and 59 minutes per 8 hour shift. I used to do about 100 miles per shift in a large and populated county (Palm Beach). I forgot about the "Remy" part of Delco-Remy...I wonder when they dropped that?

Back when GM was king. Toyota is the new GM...
@OsbornTramain3 жыл бұрын
World wide, VW is King, biggest seller in the world, I don't think Toyota is the GM of the day now? Particularly when you have about 6 companies all in the same sales range, VW, Toyota, Daimler, Ford and Stellentis and GM, there is no one big world wide domanant player anymore. times have changed. GM was the undisputed king in the world for vehicles, now it's group of companies.
