Chip Channel Restorations

3 жыл бұрын

My Aunt and Uncle bought this for me from a flea market July of 2020. It's a nice looking 1959 Tonka Farms Stake Truck. overall it was in great shape, the tires were heavily worn, windshield broken, missing four of the stake bed sides and had a couple bad hub caps. It was in the perfect shape to be restored. The color didn't quite come out how I thought it would, however I was very happy with the final product.
Want to send Chip Channel something? Restorable toys, tools, etc..

All these restoration channels and these cool old trucks and whatnot....I was born in 1973, so my toys started out with some of these, mainly things my parents would get at garage sales by the early late 70s/80s. My older brother had more of these as new, and my first memories were looking at all those detailed trucks and wanting so badly to play with them....but I was pretty small. As a man pushing 50, I can now see the detail and just how solidly built these things were. And I’m just as attracted to these toys as I was then. Thank you so much for these videos and your time. All of us “kids” each have our own unique memories and emotions that are brought out by seeing these toys brought back to the vibrant items they once were, and during these days, it’s like a little salve for the soul....

I don't know why, but the sandblasting is always my favorite part.
@fredbear7087
@fredbear7087 3 жыл бұрын
Tonka trucks probably aren't to bad, but sandblasting bigger parts or a larger quantity of parts is actually mind numbingly boring and can be quite uncomfortable and even painful. Your hunched over with your arms extended all the way out in the built in gloves, holding the part with one hand and running the nozzle with the other. On top of that there is a foot pedal that runs most machines that is also in and uncomfortable spot to get to. Having said, and done, all that, its my least favorite part of the video.

The texture of the metal changes with sandblasting. I am wondering if there is a better medium to blast with that won't "frost" the metal, as that is not its original specification when manufactured.

Dear Sir, I came across your site recently and I've binged watched most of your videos. I must say you are arguably the most talented restorer on Utube. Your attention to detail, skill and artistry is absolutely amazing. You faithfully restore the piece back to its original condition and only use like for like replacement parts as a last resort. What your doing is wonderful! Your bringing toys back to life and more importantly preserving history. I have recommended your site to a number of Cowboys how have the cheek to call themselves Restorers. Some of the pieces need serious restoration after their done. I sincerely thank you for sharing your amazing skill and artistry and really looking forward to your next video. 😊

I love like how you actually restore rather than modify vehicles. Some people, including myself, would incorrectly match closer to the faded or discolored pain instead of finding our what the original color would have been. When paint fades, how do you determine what the original color would have been? How do you research your projects? Would you ever do a video where you speak and discuss how you research you reference target and buy your replacement parts and decals.
