You have done it again, a fantastic and shiny restoration. Whether or not it's the right boom arm, I think the result is brilliant.

I can not believe it has been 60 years. I had a Dragline and transport. I was 7 and mom would take me down to the beach in SF to play. Thanks for the memories.

Thanks for the comment. I actually purchased the wrong color and didn't realize until the paint dried that it was a little lighter than Tonka's original color. I was happy with the results though. Thanks for watching! cheers!

Glad you restored it. And that you fixed the pitting. A lot of channels for toy restoration don't and it is annoying as heck. Another old beauty is ready for sandbox work again!

I had one of these when I was a kid back in the 1960s. (I was born in 1954.) I do remember mine was painted sort of a pale green if my old memory is correct. Everything else looks identical as far as I can tell and remember. Thanks for the video. It brought back some pleasant memories.

Hi, thanks for the nice comment and thanks for watching! If your was pale green it was likely from Penny's or Sears. The two stores wanted their Tonka Toys to stand out and ordered them in those colors from what I understand.

This is where powder coating comes in, rather than painting from an aerosol. Imperfections caused by minor pits just disappear when you powder coat.
@onemansgarage6203
@onemansgarage6203 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Yes. This project would probably be perfect for powder coat. I don not have that capability at this time unfortunately. I do plan to acquire the equipment needed to powder coat and try it out eventually.

Can you tell us the blaster air pressure and any prenozzle information? Size of Gun nozzle? Do you have a drier?
@onemansgarage6203
@onemansgarage6203 2 жыл бұрын
Its a standard blasting cabinet and accessories from Harbor Freight (Not Sponsored) and air pressure is 90 PSI at the nozzle. I do use a drier due to humid climate. Thanks for the questions and thanks for watching!

They are the original parts. You can find them online though.
@williamharris8367

That was very impressive -- especially the amount of effort needed to remove all of the rust and corrosion! Question: Are the parts like the boom arm and bucket newly manufactured? Is there enough demand for reproductions to make this a viable business?
@onemansgarage6203
@onemansgarage6203 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry I took so long responding, I missed your nice comments somehow. To answer your questions, the bucket was newly manufactured, purchased online. Most other parts you can find used online. I don't know enough about the demand for these items to answer accurately. Some people do make a business of it though or I wouldn't be able to get parts. Thanks again and thanks for watching!

I thought sand blasting was to get rid of everything?
@onemansgarage6203
@onemansgarage6203 3 жыл бұрын
It would normally, but my air compressor is undersized. Also, sanding helps to even out the rust pits and show high and low spot dents in the metal. (I have since purchased a better compressor...stay tuned) Thanks for your comment, and for watching!
