Now that we have Dirty Airy running down the road like a champ we need to refine her a little.
What I mean by "refining" is basically gut her like a catfish.
Hmm....harsh.
Anyway, come along!

Lovin the corvair content!!! Just purchased a 65 Corsa that was owned by a family friend since 86. Last ran in 95. I’m in the process of a mechanical restoration. Yours being a 500 with AC has to be rare. Nice job on the engine. The 95hp is great engine. It’ll run up hills like nobody’s business. Keep them Corvairs alive and on the road.

You had me going on the floor pan installs! LOL. Loved the metal detector through all of the soil when underneath is all metal. HA! You are a great mechanic to have a leak free Corvair, Mr. JayHawker. Keep warm.

Another great video. I've done a interior on a 65 Corsa Coupe, & a 67 Monza Convertible; All late models had the plastic trim A pillar cover on them. The convertible interior is easier to do than the coupes; Because their is no headliner. Anyway watching you brought back memories.Thanks for the video; I'm going to watch some of your videos working on M-F's. Take care.

I'm also in the process of restoring a Corvair ('66 Corsa coupe) with factory air conditioning and a rusty windshield surround. When I removed the evaporator housing for access, etc., I found about a football-sized mouse nest made from seat cushion cotton. This wasn't apparent until I opened up the evaporator case. Enjoy!

God bless you. I have done the clean up and replace on several Corvairs. My favorite was the '61 700 4 dr(my first 'Vair). Wish I had all three of them back. I had also owned a '88 Monza 2 dr and a '65 Corsa.

Great job Sir Jayhawker! My son and I spent New Year’s Day cleaning up our shop. It was cold here but we had the shop good and warm. Glad to see you’re doing it right! Keep up the great work!

Check those coins, pennies especially, ya never know about the issue. We will be doing the interior soon on our 51 pickup, not quite so many parts. Keep up the good work! Brian and Cathy Col 3:1-4

As someone who just replaced (welded/steel) 90% of his floors in his early Corvair wagon..., I'd suggest using a POR15 like product on the rear floors. I've had cars far worse than that rear section. Just wire wheel it very well, wash it with an alkaline cleanser (a step too many people skip) and treat it with Phosphoric Acid. Because I do a lot with the acid it is more like "Paint over where rust WAS" than "Paint over rust." POR15 sells a thin mesh that is good for covering holes. I've covered holes in floors the size of a quarter and 15 years later it is still holding up (just make the mesh double the size of the hole). Sometimes I will cover the whole area with the mesh if I feel the metal is too pock marked. Just take your time and don't slap a single coat of POR15 over an uncleaned, untreated area. It always amazes me that people will see a hole rusted in a floor the size of a quarter and not take into account the floor can have numerous holes punched at the factory.

I vote for repairs on the minor issues on the rear floorboards, they seem very salvageable, that way you can put the saved money towards a pack of Dilly bars, Dove bars or Heath Klondikes! Off to the store I go now! 😋😋😋 God bless!

I think the frozen ice cream treat your mind was searching for is an Eskimo Pie by Edy’s, or Brown Cow by Mayfield, or Moo Bar by Blue Bell.

Looks like Fred Flintstone floors. They will take more than a license plate to repair. Metal detecting inside the car, looking for what, silver coins? On those door panels, I would get some diamond plate aluminum and make some 4" tall x whole door length kick panels that cover the torn part. It would look good and prevent further damage.

I think on that rear panel that’s where an ash tray on the Monza would be.

I recently inherited two of these beauts. a 64 and 65 both convertibles. Been loving the videos. trying to learn as much as i can about these things as up until i received the cars i had no idea it was even a thing. Just a guess but i think the little Plastic box (for lack of better terms) on the rear interior panel is likely a pocket protector for a flip out ashtray that may have been installed prior to the resto or maybe as an option from factory.

Good video Mr jayhawker I got question I have a 48 4door fleetmaster body is original and in great shape but the hand chassis is rotted what can I do would reinforcing the frame work or do I gotta replace its pretty bad it rotten all the way thru in the back over the rear end
@TheJayhawker
@TheJayhawker 6 ай бұрын
It depends on just how much damage is done. If it's just in small areas like a couple of inches or so it is possible to cut out the bad stuff and weld in patches but even that will be difficult without at least raising the body off the frame a few inches so that you can get in there and weld all the way around. It's also best to take the weight off of the frame so that you can make sure it is not sagging because of the rot. If it is very bad and whole sections of the frame are rotten, esp the arc over the axle then yes, its best to find a replacement chassis. It would also be possible at that point to cut both chassis apart in front of the rear axle and weld in the new one; that way you wouldn't have to rebuild the entire front end of the car. But you know your situation and abilities best. Good luck!
