I realize now after viewing some of these old games from the 60's, that I am finally watching the great stars my father had talked about. In my earliest memories, most had retired or were in the final twilight of their careers. Me and my brother would be watching some mid 70's hockey game, and my father would comment about this former All Star on the bench; rumured to be retiring after the season, or this coach who was once one of the Blue and White's best. While we often had their hockey cards, they just remained unknown faces, for we had our share of Orr's, Sittler's and Lafleurs to cheer on. Seeing these players now allows me to finally resonate within the memories of my fathers stories. This is special for me indeed. Thank You.

I listened to this series on am radio at night in chicago.Night time was fantasy time for young hockey fane.Picked up a lot of out of town games,got real fami9liar with Danny Gallivan,IMHO the greatest hockey voice of all time..And we had LLoyd Pettit in Chicago.What a great time for hockey!

Big M laid a Gordo elbow on Harper like a charm. Thought he got hit by a train to Saskatoon. This is the hockey I grew up on. Those goals that the Leafs were able to score in those come from behinds the previous Cup winning seasons just didn’t materialize. I thought my Hawks had a chance in the Finals until the Habs Hammered them at the Forum 4-0 in game 7. That one was over after 14 seconds.

Habs won the cup that spring...it was my first Stanley Cup Parade down St. Catherines Street. I jumped on the back of Beliveau's car and got his autograph....i was 10 years old...remember it well...now i am 65 ...lol...moved to Vancouver in 1978...we don't have Stanley Cup parades here....we have a statue of Roger Neilson waving a surrender flag outside the rink....it will continue to jinx Vancouver for decades to come in my opinion...lol...

While "Hockey Night In Canada" didn't carry regular-season games in their entirety until 1968 (joining games in progress), I think they carried playoff games in full from start-to-finish from the 1950's-onward. I suspect the whole game was televised, but a videotape or kinescope of the first portion of the game may no longer exist.

Ahhh...there was nothing I liked more as a kid than enjoying a game at the gardens...from the green seats....I can relate to Mr. Ellis`s issues with shyness and a speech impediment and his later battle with depression....but in the day there was nothing better than seeing Ronnie Ellis flying down the right wing and letting go that low slap shot.

Agreed. Ronnie Ellis played Some of his Best Hockey, in 1972 in the Summit series, with Team mate Paul Henderson, and Bobby Clarke.

I found the Forum and Gardens to be very quiet compared to the American buildings in Boston, Chicago, Detroit and NY. The crowd involvement was very restrained in those days in Montreal and Toronto
@russhook65954 жыл бұрын
Vancouver was even quieter! Hence the name Pacific Mausoleum, instead of Colosseum. Chicago Stadium was something NEVER to be equalled for fan noise!
@barrykennedy42823 жыл бұрын
I had the pleasure as a youngster to watch games with my dad in both of those arenas - The Forum and MLG. Fans were noisy when it was appropriate. Canadians understand the game. Prior to expansion, yes, die hard American fans understood the game too but Americans are different people..noisier too. Now I’m not sure if our American friends really understand what they are watching. They go for entertainment outside of hockey - tee shirts being thrown in the crowd, contests for free Pizza. Despite Syd and Connor, Austen and Ovi, hockey lost its purity a long time ago. But great memories to watch this.

In the late 1960’s through early 1980’s, before goal horns and deafening pre-recorded rock music, my experience says the Chicago Stadium and the St. Louis Arena were the loudest 2 venues in the NHL.
