This is great to have the 65 series posted, except Gm. 6. I started watching baseball that-year and yearn to see any broadcasts from the 1966 or 1967 World Series! Thanks for these memories!

I started my love of baseball that same year. My Dad luckily turned me into a Dodger fan! I can remember going to Forbes Field to see my first game. The starting pitcher that day for the Dodgers was Sandy Koufax!! Got my first autograph from Sweet Lou Johnson. Baseball's best era the 60's!

@@part6133. Yeah, no one is going to object to a bunt when you’re behind - just when you’re way ahead. And these guys from the days gone by weren’t at all shy about enforcing the “unwritten rules”. How do you think Sal “The Barber” Maglie got his nickname?

I was in the 6th grade when this series was played. The games played in Minnesota I would race home from school on my bike to catch the last few innings. I lived in NC, but the Twins were my favorite team, till the Braves moved to Atlanta.

at 3:50 Vin Scully says Mudcat Grant is the first "Negro" pitcher in AL to win 20 games. Man this broadcast is old, but still a classic. Koufax declined to pitch as it was Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur. Drysdale said to Alston after the game "I bet you wish I was Jewish too"

Thanks for placing on KZfaq. I am a Cardinals fan from St. Louis and well remember watching this world series during my grade school years. It sure looked at first like the Twins would win the series. I am an avid Baseball Strat-o-matic fan and I have really been playing it a lot during the coronavirus pandemic of the past year and bought the game in the early 1970s. Most of my teams are all the contender teams from when I was a kid growing up in the 1960s (1960 - 1971). It's an amazing realistic statistic game. The 1965 Dodgers surprise you as they really play well despite limited hitting, although Sweet Lou Johnson gives them a boost. They steal bases and just like in 1965 their pitching staff is dominant and play well in the game just as they did for real in 1965. It's funny when I play the 1965 Dodgers versus the big hitting of the 1965 Giants and Twins it is the Dodgers that usually win.

I’m a pirates fan and we actually had a really good year in 1965 but we just couldn’t overcome the giants and dodgers even tho we were close. The pirates were contenders for good parts of the 60s but no doubt the best year was the first year of that decade the Cinderella 1960 team.

In 1965 America, there was no talk of pitch counts, pitch speeds, or instant replay. I notice that they did use a lot of voice over interviews with the players however.
@katherineberger6329
@katherineberger6329 6 ай бұрын
The ball is still out on pitch counts - it seems like pitchers use the pitch count as a reason to push velo ever higher, even though the original reason for a pitch count was to reduce injuries (the chance of an injury to a pitcher increases astronomically after about 100 pitches). As far as pitch velo, if they'd had a reliable way to time pitch speeds in delivery from the mound they absolutely would have.

I miss the behind the plate shots like the old days..yeah, the view from CF is the norm now, but watching the pitches coming towards the plate from behind the plate was neat too. Like to see a mix of both.. noticed some are still using the liner insert instead of the regular helmet too.

Holy cow Drysdale had a .300 batting average for the '65 season. It's crazy to think of a pitcher as anything but a sure out these days (with a couple exceptions like Zach Greinke, who has a 'great' average for pitchers of .219)

Men were still wearing their hat and suits to the World Series in 1965 America. Women still wearing dresses, girdles, and stockings too. There was still a dress code, that men and women were expected to follow when they appeared in public places. A different world than exists today.

Good point.. Frank Robinson was such a superstar, that he left the NL but not as the top player by far in the NL, (think Mays, Aaron, Marichal, Koufax, etc ) comes to the AL in 1966 AND becomes the number 1 player. Crazy. NL super powerful BECAUSE they promoted and pushed black players.

They were all in color at least as early as 1960. NBC was owned by RCA and RCA was pushing their color TV sets, so they wanted all NBC's big shows to be in color. CBS & ABC didn't go to color broadcasting till later on because they had no color TV sets to sell. Which is why Bonanza was in color in 1959 and Gunsmoke wasn't in color till 1966.

A couple of take aways from this. The footage show how much baseball has changed over the years. Little details are express like Lou Johnson being called from the minor (although his batting figures are modest he was badly needed offense in both regular and postseason). I also didn't realize that all home teams won up to game seven. Twins could have stole it with a few timely hits in game 7. Even though I'm a Twins fan I do think the better team won.
