The seats to the first standing level were red then blue. Then someone from the Canadiens got a can of red paint and painted over the blue to have more expensive seats, I suppose. I can't remember what I paid for standing in the early sixties. Sometimes we got good seats (last row of the blues) for $5.50.

@@reneleclerc6119 He should have kept Bob and Barclay Plager. Bob Plager went to STL for Rod Seiling, whom the Blues drafted in the expansion draft. Barclay was part of the deal that sent Berenson to STL for Ron Stewart midway thru the 67-68 season. The Rangers could have used the Plagers muscle against the big bad Bruins; they certainly helped the Blues be the toughest of the early expansion teams.

@@bareknuckles2u ... of course. All six teams were loaded with the best players. When they expanded to 12 in 1968, they doubled their players ... plenty of awesome players still, but you had teams like St. Louis and Philadelphia that couldn't play the game like the original 6 ... so adopted tactics to compete. E.g.: defensive (St. Louis) ... tough, rough, lunchpail hockey (Flyers). It would take over a decade before an expansion team would play with similar flair on a regular basis (Oilers).

@@MarkGard-dx3fd I was a 10 year old kid when hockey came to STL in '67 and became an instant Blues fan. Bowman and Francis had a good relationship and both GMs thought the trade would help both teams. Francis wanted Stewart to check top left wingers on the other strong East teams: Mahavolich, Hull, Lemaire, Henderson, Bucyk etc. To a degree, Francis gave up on Berenson and Plager, but they ended up playing a key role in the Blues early years; maybe saved the franchise. The tragedy in the Stewart story was his involvement in the untimely death of Terry Sawchuck shortly there after. I've also wondered if Francis had not made that trade, the Rangers would have won a Cup in the late '60s. Berenson could have helped the Rangers skate with the Habs and Barclay could have added some muscle against Boston, their two main rivals. Just speculation. BTW, I went to a great Blues/Rangers game in 1968. Rangers won 4-3. I clearly remember goals by Nevin and Hadfield. Glenn Hall had just begun wearing a mask, but Giacomin was still bare-faced.
