The first car I ever bought with my own money was a '66 New Yorker. That was in 1974. Bought it from my soon to be Mother in-law. It had the 383 and was a green 4 door. I had forgotten just how mammoth that car was. Wonderful car.

Love the '65-'66 Chrysler's, had a dozen 1965's of all series including 300-L and nearly as many 1966's in all series, included 2 black '65 NEW yORKER's (2 door HT and 6 window sedan) and one black '66 (a 6 window sedan). Not rich, just lived in the late '60's through 70's when they could be bought in near new condition for a few hundred dollars, Actually had just over 1000 cars in my 71 years, most everything built (over 50 years had my own auto restoration shop) Most of my '65-'66's were full accessories + a/c (biggest problem over the years were power window's on several). Currently have 1964 Imperial Crown Convertible and Coupe + '65 and '66 4 door HT's, the '66 is black with silver blue leather interior, every accessory with dual a/c and factory Enforcer 440 and HD suspension, have 336,000 miles, re-restored it before retiring. Your car is drop dead gorgeous, beautiful in-out combo, great sound, wish I'd kept some of mine, hope you enjoy your's for year's.

Are your Imperials quieter on the road than your Chrysler’s of that period? I ask because I had read the ‘65 and ‘66 Imperials had 245 pounds of sound proofing in them.

@@garysandiego My '65's are coupe and 4 door, the '66 is 4 door and my '64's are coupe and convertible, the '65 and '66 Chrysler's owned in the past include Newport, 300 Sort series, New Yorker and 300 L convertible, those were quiet cars, comparable to Ford and GM competitors. I've also owned '64 and '66 Continental's, '64 through '68 Cadillac's, and one '64 Bentley S3. I like the sound of an engine, and install low restriction exhaust, the Imperials are totally silent inside with windows up, except the '64 convert, it's noise level with widows and top up is the same low murmer heard in all the other CLOSED cars, the other converts exhaust could be heard well. I found in city traffic I normally open the vent windows slightly so I can hear the sirens on emergency vehicles, otherwise they are next to you before hearing. I also owned '67 through 75 Imperials and '76 through '78 New Yorker Brougham's, which were just slightly below the quiet of the '64-'66 Imperial's. Amazingly, I have a '64 Buick Riviera that is silent up to over 140 mph. with zero wind noise. I also noticed on '64-'66 Imperials the glass is twice as thick as other cars.

Larry Foster Thanks for responding, Larry. That was really interesting. Really wets my whistle to find a ‘65-‘66 Imperial. (I love quiet!) My first car was a ‘66 Newport sedan that I put 100,000 miles on (got it with 60,000). Enjoyed that car a lot as it was smooth and stable on the road. Several years later my dad bought a ‘78 New Yorker Brougham and I was impressed with that car. Smooth, flat cornering, and quiet. Although my dad was under the hood once a month trying to sort out that Lean Burn system! Those cars (as well as my dad’s ‘64 and ‘73 Newports and my later ‘64 300K), has made me a Mopar fan.

@@garysandiego I had a auto restoration/detail shop for 50+ years, beside private customers, had all the new/used car dealers as customers, in my lifetime have had over 1,000 cars, over 100 from each division of Chrysler Corp, I come from a family where everyone drove Mopar's back to it's beginnings (dad had a 1931 Imperial LeBaron dual cowl phaeton among many cars. In 1956 (I was 7) dad bought a '56 Fireflite which is not restored, but original, in new condition, parked in my garage, with my Imperials, '57 Belvedere convert and 2drht, and Buick's) In years past one could virtually build custom cars from option choices, up until the govt 70's, the Plymouth-Chrysler-Imperial dealer here, also was our next door neighbor, a lifelong friend of my father, and my Godfather. My '66 Imperial Crown 4dr (bought in 1970) was a special order (labeled 'IMPERIAL MAGNUM on unsilenced air cleaner one STILL can't hear with windows up) all suspension, mechanical, everything is heavy duty, corners flat at any speed, shifts out of 2nd at 125 mph, and car has LeBaron trim, leather interior, every accessory and has dual a/c. Like having a 6,000 lb, luxury Highway Patrol car, which now has 322,000 miles on her. The original wealthy lady rancher wanted LeBaron luxury, CHP speed and handling, and the larger rear window the Crown series provided. The dealer worked with customers to provide higher than normal performance Mopar's. Also had a '64 Crown equipped this way, located through the dealer, and a 300 K Spanish red convert with 426 Max Wedge.

I always enjoy scanning every New Yorker and this one is exceptional. A lawyer neighbor had a new black ‘65 nearly identical but with red leather and same fabulous split seat interior with a/c and power windows but without the classic Chrysler tilt-telescoping steering wheel! Thanks for sharing this classic!

I drove my parents’ old white 66 New Yorker through high school and college in the 70’s. I still miss it. Sold it in 1978 for $100 (at about 130,000 original miles) and bought a new Toyota for gas mileage but always missed the comfort and big engine of my New Yorker 😢

Fabulous and stunning car; I love it, and I'm delighted to see this one in such outstanding condition! For 1966, the lack of power windows and door locks combined WITH this car's tilt-and-telescope steering wheel in a New Yorker 4-door hardtop is an unusual mixture. Additionally, even for 1966, I'm quite surprised to see a New Yorker without air conditioning (I know where the dashboard vents would be located), especially in Nuevo León, Mexico. I had a 1966 300 4-door hardtop with air conditioning in Chicago (I have a 1964 Imperial now).

Nice! Clean as hell. Those were nice looking cars with a hardtop design. Not many left anymore as rust and parting out took most off the roads. My dad a 1967 Fury that was a rust bucket that lasted 230K miles with a 318. The big-block was another story! So much power. They handled well for their era.

I had one just like it in 1973 while in high school. It had a blue fabric interior. I pumped gas at a Gulf Gas Station for the summer and my boss sold it to me for $600. It was my first car and I really took care of it. I worked the entire summer of "73" to pay it off but I did it. My buddies and I had a great time with my New Yorker cursing down the Jersey Shore. I got to tell you the back seat came in handy with the girls. Thanks for sharing.

This car is stunning and easily one of the most elegant luxury cars of that time. I prefer the styling over the Imperials of '64-68. If you check out the Russian Zil limo of the '70s, you can see Chrysler influences in styling.

Spectacular car. My good buddy and neighbor had a gold New Yorker back in the early 70s. He used to floor it and it was so quiet I didn't even realize that the back tires were burning up until you look behind to see the Billows of smoke. Tires were spinning so fast you didn't even hear them Screech.

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime :-(//
