This is my 1966 Chrysler Newport 2-door. Bought new in Sacramento, CA. This car came standard with a 383 big block, 2-barrel carb, power steering, power brakes, 2.76 open rear end gears and air conditioning. The car sat in my neighbors barn from 2004 until I bought it from him and brought it home in December of 2018. I figured out the engine was junk when I tried to get it started once I got it home. I pulled the 383 and located a 1966 casting 440 big block. The 440 was bored .30 over and I rebuilt it using 516 casting iron heads with hardened valve seats, cast flat top pistons, a Lunati Voodoo cam, edelbrock dual plane intake, holley street avenger carb, msd distributor and ignition, and factory exhaust manifolds. I re-used the factory rocker arms, pushrods and other parts that were still usable.
This car has a new gas tank, brakes, dual pot master cylinder, wheel bearings, transmission was serviced and inspected, 3.23 suregrip rear end, 40 series dual flowmaster exhaust with H-pipe, mopar police style wheels and tires and a compliment of aftermarket gauges to monitor the engine vitals. It has about 300 miles on it since the rebuild. I am still working out some kinks but its running great right now.

Beautiful old survivor. Not crazy about the dog dishes and white letter tires on this car. But your car...your choice. The sound of that 440 is symphonic!!! What a great cruiser. You're going to have a lot of fun with this one.

My first car was a 1966 Newport sedan, white with a red vinyl interior. It had a 383 and two barrel carburetor. Basic kit but it was in perfect condition. Bought it in 1975 for $900. It had 60,000 miles on it. I kept it for 10 years, it took me through high school, college and law school. About a year after graduating I gave it to my uncle with 166,000 miles on it. That was such a nice car. Smooth riding, spacious, and dependable. Think of it fondly from time to time.

This was the first car I owned. I purchased it for $500 from my brother's neighbor in 1973. 383 cubic inch engine with a 4 barrel carborator. It was loaded. Am/Fm radio air conditioning power windows and brakes. Fender skirts with factory wheel covers. Back before seatbelt laws, we fit 9 skinny teenagers inside and took a day trip to the Jersey shore (Wildwood, to be exact). We stayed ALL DAY, and i mean all day!! We started for home at 2am. Home is 2 1/2 hour drive. We were all beat, my brand new friend (Mike) asked if he could drive, for continental reasons. Mike was the coolest person i had ever met. So, i agreed without hesitation. At the am 9 skinny ass teens piled in and we headed north on the Garden State Parkway. We started at exit 0 and needed to go to exit 137(137 miles). Five of us fell asleep in the back seat. I woke up several times, and each time, the speedometer showed we were going 110 MPH. I was told that during the trip home, the State Troopers followed us. Mike didn't even slow down. I tell you, coolest person I've ever met. Anyway, even though we called home, our mothers tore each of us a new one. They had a meeting. LMAO. Thanks for posting this and reminding me of my awesome day. I I really miss that car.

Oops. Sentimental reasons to drive the car.

@nonelost1 2 жыл бұрын
At 110 mph, seatbelts and even airbags would not save you if you all had been in a head on. You said the cops followed you, but no mention of having pulled you over. Did they contact your mothers instead of citing you? (perhaps saying to themselves "they will wish we lit 'em up and cited them, instead of ratting them out to their mamas"). BTW, I could hardly hear you talking while you were driving.

Good that you put in the dual master cylinder. I had the unfortunate experience of what happens when a brake line fails on a single master cylinder. No damage happened, just because I was shat lucky I was in a lightly travelled industrial area. But my eyes sure got big when the pedal went right to the floor! Can't wait to see the Dart. Back in the 70's I drove a friends Dart with a 340 (360?), and really low rear end gearing. It went like stink.
@Mclovingarage
@Mclovingarage 3 жыл бұрын
Ya, I’d heard lots of horror stories about the single pot master failing and didn’t want to have that problem. With all the torque the 440 makes I didn’t want a lot of go and not a lot of whoa. Haha! I’d like to convert the front to discs at some point. Guessing the Dart had a 340, I believe that was the original big motor in the Darts in the late 60’s, Early 70’s. Hopefully the Dart will make an appearance soon once I work out a few issues. It was my very first car in high school that I found and bought back. I hadn’t seen it in 18 or so years.

An elderly man had mine and kept it in great condition. it came with all manuals and paper work. It had a 318 engine.

Hey, just found your channel and love it that you’re a Mopar guy… I grew up in a Mopar household my dad was 6 feet seven in the big Chrysler about the only thing he could fit in. I especially have a heart for the 65 and 66 Chrysler’s, when my parents got married my dad was driving a 65 four-door Newport, later replaced by a sky blue 66 four-door Newport. Then there was a 70 Newport four-door and then the last Chrysler we owned was a 72 town and country 9 passenger wagon with a rear air conditioning in fact this was the car I took my drivers test in. My first car was a 65 two-door hardtop Newport with bucket seats and center console.I enjoyed the heck out of that car for the three or four years I had it… It’s a shame Chrysler is only a shadow of what it used to be because they used to be the engineers of the car industry. Anyway thanks for the memories and look forward to seeing what you do next.

Hey Ryan, I subscribed to your channel because I love the proficiency and practice that goes into being a motorcop. But then I discovered you're also an adventure rider (my main bike is a Super Tenere), AND you're a Mopar guy. My grandmother had a '66 New Yorker four-door when I was a kid and even in the late 70's, it looked so antiquated. I'm an Imperial fan, but it occurs to me now that the Newport had cleaner lines, not to mention weighed 500 pounds less, as Imperials still had a full frame until '67. I'm not a fan of the flowmasters, to be honest, but that interior is AMAZING. I'd love to get in touch with you, as I'm going to be starting a motorcycle channel as soon as I have editing capability (new computer on the way), and it would be really great to collaborate. Plus, I have a Mopar cop car story for you. Feel free to reach out, as I'd love to chat with you.

I almost bought a pair of 440 source heads but ran out of money as I got closer to the end of my build. I went with the SKU 10230702 which is a 262/268 duration at .050 with a lobe separation angle of 112. I wanted good vacuum and didn’t want to have to replace my stock torque converter. The stock converter stalls at 1800 rpm.

That’s one beautiful C-Body! I am a huge fan of the poverty caps. It looks so good I barely noticed that they were red circle dodge caps. Problem being that the cop wheels use the 9” caps. I love cop wheels. I have a set, but almost hurt myself moving the heavy things. I put a set of 15” wheels from a B-van on my ‘61 Pioneer. Caps are from a ‘61-‘62 Lancer, so period correct and only the untrained eyes would notice. Well done, sir.
