This is an excerpt from the "Crimson Classics" TV series. The Big 8 champion, #3 Nebraska Cornhuskers (10-0) faced the SEC champion, #4 Alabama Crimson Tide (8-1-1) in the 1966 Orange Bowl. Due to the fact that #1 Michigan State and #2 Arkansas had both lost earlier that day, this Orange Bowl became the de facto 1965 national championship game. With the win, Alabama claimed its second consecutive national championship and its third in five years. Six players involved in this game went on to be head coaches: Ray Perkins, Jackie Sherrill, Steve Sloan, and Bobby Johns for Alabama, Barry Alvarez and Frank Solich for Nebraska.
