Welcome to the channel. If you are new to the channel it’s all about modernizing and building restoconversions into extremely fun cruisers and the lessons learned along the way.

Last episode we unpacked the UNISteer kit (which guys I’m really excited about). Then we took off the old steering system.
This episode we put the new goodies and bits on her! Let’s go!

So i bought mine in 2018 for my 69 coupe. Since then i first had issues with plastic pump reservoir leaking so i went to remote reservoir. Then had major bumpsteer issues so i bought and customized a kit to fit the unisteer tie rods. Then after only 1800 miles the rack wore out internally and developed terrible rotational play wich becomes agressive changes in toe with suspension travel. Needless to say once i saved up another 2000$ i purchased flaming river kit and haven't had an issue since... expensive learning curve! Just my experience yours may be different...

Was there a major difference in how the steering felt? Was the mod well worth it ?

kevin parada many thanks 🙏. I believe I have the size I’ll look for it...~27”. It will definitely depend on the application or if you are running stock pulleys. I would suggest using the ole “route an extension cord and measure” then go to local parts store requesting the right link.

Do you know if a new Ididit column has to be modified when doing a rack and pinion or Borgeson conversion? 1967 coupe that has almost all 1968 parts on it. I'm going back and forth on either setup but need a tilt wheel now after adding Procar seats. Legs won't slide out without smashing into the column. Any help would be great thanks!

Typically they are splined or DD so you should not have to modify to accept a joint. You will just need to ensure you get the joint that matches the end. The 67 straight shaft column / steering box required the mod. You should be good 🤞! Would love to hear how the install goes.

@@FollowTheBuilds thank you sir. I’ve got the 68 steering box with rag joint right now. I’ll be doing the Borgeson more than likely since it’s simpler and I don’t have much garage space to work in. Much appreciated!
