As we continue our tribute section to the many women who helped make the 1968-1969 television season so memorable, we turn our attention to one of television's all time ladies: Eve Arden.
Ms. Arden was one of television's pioneers, and along with Lucille Ball, television's first female stars. Her legendary series, 'Our Miss Brooks' was both a radio and television hit, starting in the late 1940s on radio.
The radio show made the successful transition to television on CBS in 1952, and the show ran with two formats... the first from 1952 to 1956 at the Madison High School, and the final season with a new relocation to a Southern California/San Fernando Valley private elementary school.
In many ways, the Mothers-In-Law series was a comeback of sorts for Ms. Arden to weekly television, and this 'Mothers' show had a successful two season run on NBC under the production expertise of the legendary Desi Arnaz.
This video clip is from The Dick Cavett Show, filmed around 1980.
Enjoy!

I think Eve is wonderful. When I was younger , and the internet wasnt around , I would have so liked to have written to her and told her what pleasure she had given me with her amazing acting in films.

Shrewd commedienne...subtle...knew how to land whatever material she was given... I'm a bit young for Ms Brooks but loved her movies and in Mother's in Law.. her presence just makes one smile....you know you're in for a good time.

That voice, as rich as chocolate fudge and her timing , impeccable. Reminds me of a Bea Arthur in golden girls , bea and Eve could mug a take , a simple raise of the eyebrow could have you laughing from the belly. I’ve never seen her when she wasn’t entertaining. In Mildred Pierce the male character walks in to pierces office. Eve is hanging something on a wall standing on her desk. The male stares at her and Eve delivers a delicious line “ Leave something on me, I’m freezing out here” absolutely divine. Lol

Mothers in law is one of the great sitcoms of all time. The chemistry between Eve and Kaye - the best ever. Our Miss Brooks is good and can be damn good but I find inconsistent. The Eve Arden Show, judging from the 4 episodes that are on YT are terrific; I'd love the see the entire run of the show one day, if that exists.

I got the collection as a birthday gift, and I crack it open occasionally. I had mentioned that I enjoyed the show when it came out. The episodes are uneven, but the good ones were awfully good. The series went south fast the second year, after Roger C. Carmel walked out.

Eva Ardan reminds me of Vincent Price the actor. I think they could be brother and sister. ,or related. Probably the tone of their voices. I know they are not but I always thought that since I was a kid . I am 62 years old.
