Red w/saddle or tan interior is ideal. Good to keep as much of original as possible. Original seats look perfect ... would probably look/feel "more perfect" in person; makes for the "lived-in" look and feel. Thank you for showing.

Good for you on restoring your dad's car. I have a '68 OTS with factory hard top that is a 2/68 model. have had it for 35+ years and just this week installed a Bell SS Big bore exhaust system. I also have the EDIS Ignition system so no D-22 dizzy mounted on my car.

In 1977 I bought a 1968 series 1.5 in Jamaica for $2900 and brought it to the USA, it was also right hand drive and red with but with the black interior, mine had open headlights and rocker switches on the center dash and the only other difference I can remember is the my rocker covers were polished aluminum. What a joy it was to have but sadly l sold it in 1988

Thank you! Wonderful video! Excellent story. A question. Why do you call it s 1 1/2?

If it was sold in Aug 68, how come it has a '69 plate? also, it should have open headlights like the series 2/3. Still a cool cat though

What a nice story and the car is beautiful! I am looking at a 1968 OTS here in the U.S. All of the ones I've looked at have open headlights and rocker switches. Do they differ due to the fact they were imported to the U.S.?
@Thereishope6643 жыл бұрын
Due to US Safety regulations Jaguar exported the Series 1.5 to the US with the rocker switches on the dash but I believe they retained the toggle switches for the home market. They also retained the slim bumpers with the lights above. The S2 saw the introduction of the new lighting arrangement with a raft of other changes.

Very nice E Type! It retains its 1968 "ribbed" camshaft covers and new-for-'68 easier- to- clean wire wheels, but given pre-'68 eared knock-offs. However, the open headlamps (which you can see in the pictures from the car's earlier days) have been replaced with the covered versions of '61 through to June of '67. The original rocker switch centre dash with the five gauges has also been replaced, with a 4.2 up-to December of '67 four gauge/toggle switch variant. I suppose it all comes down to personal taste. On the one hand the changes make the car "more Series 1", whilst also detracting a bit from originality. I don't imagine these retro-fits affect the value either way. Happy motoring and I am sure you enjoy your E Type as much as I do mine!

Why worry about originality, modern tech is sooo much better, original production costs often prevented manufacturers from using the best things available at the time, my view is to use every modern improvement possible, without degrading the overall superb look and styling. Love the car though.

This car had two wonderful features: its looks and its engine, Everything else was crap. Own one and you'll find out.
