Thanks for posting this one, Lou. As a long time Classic Cougar fan and owner, this is THE Cougar in my book. I place it above the ‘68 XR7 GTEs and the ‘69 -‘70 Eliminators even. For viewers that may come across a Dan Gurney Special out there, don’t go nuts though...Dan Gurney Special was just a minor appearance package for ‘67 and ‘68: pretty much just a couple stickers, turbine hubcaps, & chrome dress up for small block engine (in ‘67); available on Xr7 or standard models.. The XR7G was a totally different Cat! Based on the XR7 model only in 1968, it sported Shelby ish features as shown in the video, special badging, big block engine availability (G-only scoop became functional w Ram Air 428 CJ), special shift knob & gold dash badging. Many had electric moonroofs like this beauty. Interestingly, even if the car did not have the sunroof, you still got the sunroof switches in the G-only console!!! Fog lamps, special XR7G wheel center caps (some early cars had special Radir lace mags that were recalled). 619 made ....Waaaaay more rare & desirable than Dan Gurney Specials.

Yeah! I remember the first time a saw the the tail lights of a Cougar fire up for a left hand turn. We were in my Dad's 70, Buick, Electra 225, and I was in the back seat, jumping around like a normal, hyped up, 5 year old, at 7PM, on a dark country road, in Eastern, Washington State. I bring this up because it was pitch dark with an over cast sky. It's something that completely blew my little boy, car crazy mind. So, Dad turned and we followed that Cougar for a few miles until the car turned right onto, I assume, the owners driveway. It's had to explain the excitement of those cool little gimmicky things the big three did, back in the day: sequential turn signal lights, moon roofs, four to seven engine choices, huge land cruisers all the way down to mini cars, hidden headlights deployed by vacuum advance (hell, up till the new F150's a few years back Ford was using vacuum advance for four wheel drive engagement) and all the different induction systems...… My kids look at me like a simpleton. But, at 5 years old, back in the winter of 72, it was pure magic.

Little known fact. If you turn the left blinker & the hazard lights on together then both lt&rt blinkers will blink sequential together outward. It looks real neat when showing it off. This was inspection mode so you can check all bulbs & sequential system at once.

I knew a guy that had one with the 390 engine, FMX auto trans. I remember he had to stomp hard on the brake when he put it in gear, it always chirped the tires even with the brake on.

I had a ‘69 with a built 351C and an FMX trans that would also chrip the rear tires when putting it into gear. Thought it was kinda cool unless there was a traffic cop or patrolman in my immediate locale whose attention was directed towards the exhaust note of the car. Had to talk to several of them about that chirp.

Nice job with this one. I offered criticism on an earlier video, but this was ideal. Plus, what are the odds of having 3 of my 4 favorite muscle cars side by side('68 Cougar, Firebird and Gran Sport). The only thing missing was a mid 60s Mercury Comet Cyclone. Lucky kid's dad owns a bunch of Cougars, and let him drive a Boss 302(Mustang I assume?) to the prom! We owned a 78 AMC Pacer when I was in high school! Lol. They did put Boss 302's in Cougars.... I wouldn't have thought of the possibility of the hood pins getting caught up in the hideaway headlight mechanism. Good preventative measure!☝
