To support my efforts to create more clips please donate to me at www.patreon.com/allinaday. He was a member of the New York City Puerto Rican street gang/political party called the Young Lords. I knew some of their members when I made my film in Sing Sing prison in 1972. Terrific people. Very talented. This poet describes how his immigrant people felt when they got to America - to New York City, and found out what the real world outside of Puerto Rico was like.

Beautiful. His words are the living breathing flesh and blood of RAP. Her smile came at the end at just the right spot. This belongs in a museum, preserved for future generations, so that Juan Miguel Milagro Olga Manuel live forever in our memory.

Thank you for posting this. I was brought to NYC from PR when I was young. We looked up to these people as they were trying to improve things for us. That was Pedro Pietri in that video. Sadly, he left us in 2004. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedro_Pietri

The late great Puertorican & Lower East Side Poet Mr. Pedro Pietri! His keen perceptive and prophetic words describe the lives of poor disadvantage people, in this case Puertorriqueños, in America. His book The Puerto Rican Obituary is in my opinion a must have! I was lucky enough to had met and performed his words in 1978’s Public Theatre’s Traveling Performances throughout NYC “An Evening at the New Rican Theatre.” This video is a glimpse of the young genius at his craft! Rest In Peace Mr. Pedro Pietri.

Amen. This Young Boricua was ahead of his time, still applicable til this day! If only the 2000s generation cared about the 70s and 60s Puerto Ricans! 🇵🇷 Even back then we had so much influence on society... people will always refuse to admit. But its OK because WE know we're the perfect flavor.

yes, my people are beautiful, gifted, kind, witty & some the warmest folks I've met. many of us are sharp and can quickly cut through the bullsh*t that mass media tries to feed us. clarification: Boricuas ("Puerto Ricans," if you use the term given to the island by the spanish (i.e., "Puerto Rico")) are not immigrants due to the jones-shafroth act of march 1917 designating Boricuas as u.s. citizens). also you might already know this: Puerto Ricans from nyc are often referred to as Nuyorican. thank you for sharing.

I enjoy your channel, watch it daily. Just want to point out We are not immigrants as you wrote in the description. I looked the definition up again to make sure before writing this. We are citizens and have been for almost a century and a half. Thanks for uploading this. It was great to watch.

NelNice: As the description above says, I worked with a fairly large group of the Young Lords in Sing Sing for one year teaching them drama and filmmaking before I made my documentary. They were a fantastic group of guys. In fact we could not have made the documentary without the support of Tony Pabon, one of the group who became very important to the film and who was released from Sing Sing on my recognizance. Unfortunately, several months later, he took $5000 from us and I never saw him again. You should purchase the entire film as you may find your relative in it. Here is the link. You can stream it or buy a DVD. www.amazon.com/dp/B00061U15C David Hoffman - filmmaker
