Here is a sweet old 4001 from 1968. Few changes but 'mostly' original! Comes with a flight case and some parts to swap if you like. Feel free to ask questions below....

It's a work of art.

I used to own an identical Ric Fireglo 4001 from 1968, serial number HH ... it had the horseshoe pickup, so I think you're bass there has a replacement bridge pickup which is okay.

I have actually seen both so neither are surprising! :)

Was about to comment it sounded like utter shite and then you said ' Lets turn the doug pedal off' .... and it sounded gorgeous

You think that drive pedal sounded like shit? Drive is what makes a Rickenbacker sound like a Rickenbacker. Those who like to just plug straight in cranking up the bass and setting the treble and midrange to almost zero… might as well save a few thousand dollars and get a pawn shop el cheapo for 100 dollars

@@MyVideos-fm7ug yeh I did and still do … some drive pedals I like but this one leaves me cold ! Glad you like it though :) take care and thanks for letting me know how you feel

I think it sounds great “on its own”. I find you can coax a lot of character out of Rics just by an aggressive right hand technique - a bit like Geddy 😊

Never saw a 1968 without the horseshoe. I guess there's a first time for everything. I did own a 1969 that had no horseshoe.

Pretty sweet bass! I have a ‘71 caramel colored Rick, with the stereo output, triangle fret markers, and the high-output pick ups. Pretty sure the whole thing is original… Including (get this) tuners that TURN BACKWARDS!🤪

Those would be original! they should be flat tipped Grovers....should be smooth and sweet sounding...

Beautiful. I guess the lower output does escentuate the topend. Nice

More of that traditional Ric tone

Great video (and beard) as always man! Love the sound of this bass but if I could make one suggestion I’d say back the treble and high kids off the pedal a bit. Sounds a bit harsh around 2-3kHz

Stunning bass - you'r right - they don't come that cheap. Amazing treble, but what is a Doug (?) pedal? That boosts the treble to sound just like Chris Squire? Thanks.

The dUg pedal is by Tech21NYC. It is the signature pedal of dUg Pinnick from King's X....has a LOT of tones in it!
@ianr025 ай бұрын
@@bassjaymi Thank you! Will look it up but as I live in Australia it's probably not going to be cheap... I assume as the tone controls have been bypassed, the tone is basically flat?

Did this have the capacitor still on the bridge pickup in this video?

No, the pots are all bypassed on this bass-so what you heard is ALL pickups....

Live players do this sometimes as it keeps it on full throttle at all times
@nolantaylor65610 ай бұрын
I’ve been a “live player” for 30 years playing Rickenbackers. It takes minimal effort to turn your knobs all the way up, and they’ll stay that way.
@bassjaymi10 ай бұрын
@@nolantaylor656 every player is different and the owner of the bass made that decision years ago....
@nolantaylor65610 ай бұрын
@@bassjaymi I get it, but even in really expensive headphones that 4001 sounds unusually thin. With the knobs bypassed, the capacitors are also bypassed, , especially the one that’s meant to balance out bridge and neck pickup. It’s little things.
@bassjaymi10 ай бұрын
@@nolantaylor656 for sure! If it was mine, i would realign it all, but at this point it will be the discretion of its new owner
