A 69 440 in good shape and unmolested is a great find indeed. Steel crank, internally balanced motor with good compression. Congratulations.....

Yep and it still had 480 ft/lbs of torque and those massive port heads with huge valves. A simple Direct Connection recurved distributor and tune and you've had a runner of an engine ready to drop into a lighter car.

I agree. That car can be saved. It actually looks in fair condition other than the roof which can be fixed especially since it get covered with vinyl. I would buy that car since its a two door and I'm guessing not many are left.

My uncle had one of the Hurst editions when it was only a couple of years old if that, he suped it up after he bought it and when he and my aunt came to visit he made a run to the store and asked me if I wanted to go with him, I want to say I was almost 4 or 4 it defineatly was before I was five because my dad closed his service station shortly after the first oil embargo, so of course I said yes. I sat in the front seat on the way down and when we left my house he floored it, I could only see sky and was pressed into the seat and deafened by tire squeal. After picking up what he came for at the super market, he told me to get in the back seat and when I did he preceded to do donuts and figure eights in the parking lot and I was rolling around that giant white leather seat, asshole over elbow laughing my head off. I don't remember much from that age, some things are burned into my memories like "working" at my dads gas station sweeping, picking up trash and washing customers windshields, getting my "pay" which was a choice of candy from the machine inside, Mallow cups or Sky Bars, they were my favorite, and eating lunch with my dad at his desk in his office. Dads been gone for around 35 yrs but my uncle and aunt are still alive and kicking in their mid eighties.

My Dad had a 1969 Newport Custom 4 door sedan, 383 2 barrel, highway gears, I think they were 2.81 or something like that. Just leave it in drive, about 25-30 mph, tromp it, it kicks down into first and does not shift until 55 mph, then in second it goes to 90 before shifting. Now if that is not a Interstate cruiser, I don't know what is. That is left in drive. The torqueflite shifted better automatically than manually. It floated at 120. Just out for a cruise. The engine was NOT wound out at 120.

I remember a 1970 Chrysler 300 four door hardtop, console shift as well as the U code 440 TNT/Magnum. I saw it in the Wash DC area ca 1976; owner told me he bought that 300 new in Los Angeles. It was almost the exact same color as the 1969 you're showing to us. What was really heart breaking was seeing its bedraggled rear quarter panels rotting away. Believe me, if I had the $$ to buy it, assuming it was actually for sale; I would've taken it back to SoCal and had it properly restored to showroom condition.

I hope that Mr. Magnante is on the mend and we see him again soon. No VIN, can't win, but can be figured out, no doubt: C for Chrysler 300, possible M for Medium price class, 23 for two door hardtop, K for 440 V8 with four barrel, 9 for 1969 model year, C for Jefferson Ave, Detroit, MI assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The original Jefferson plant that assembled this car operated from 1925 to 1990 and today's Jefferson Ave plant operated by Stellantis opened in 1991. No tag, can't brag, but easy to figure out, no doubt: CM23 for Chrysler 300 two door hardtop, E63 for 440 V8 with four barrel, D31 or D32 for three speed automatic transmission, M6T for Saddle interior trim, possible T5 for Burnished Bronze exterior paint among other codes.

Oh were these fantastic cars! Huge car but with rugged leaf springs in rear and strong upper and lower control arms with torsion bars in front. That you could setup with just a wrench to lift the whole front end up, that honestly did nothing for the center of gravity, but did help the front end absorb just about any pothole or big bumps. Personally I prefer the previous generation. My wonderful Dad was the proud owner of a 68 Chrysler Town&Country Beach Wagon, he special ordered the day after Mom told the family we were going to have another sibling! that would make it 4 of us kids so far. At the time Dad owned the King of the road 64 Imperial Crown Coupe! So if he was going to have to trade that in on a 9 pass wagon? It was going to be special, so he ordered the Town&Country loaded, in deep metallic maroon with matching leather three row interior, AM/FM, power everything, 440 TNT with factory towing package that came with not just the hitch, wiring and coolers, but 3:09 posi! I’m here to tell you that car was fast! Maybe not very quick, but could burn both tires, plus bring the speedometer needle past 120, all the way to 12:00o’clock on the clock just past the speedometer!!!

My first car was a 1969 Chrysler 300. It was 2 door, yellow, no vinyl top, and had a 440 High Performance with 375 HP. For a 4300 pound car, it moved out fairly well. I sold it to a friend of mine that wanted the engine for his Road Runner for $300. They were known for having problems with the valve guides. The design of the heads could have been better and they really didn't flow all that well. Unless you could get a good aftermarket head, you could get comparable performance out of a 383 or 400.

100cfm intakes, 80cfm exhaust? Excellent heads bone stock. Port them and they do just fine. This was a factory HP motor. Everything is a compromise. These can laze along calmly, then have plenty of romp and stomp in them. They could use a bigger carb.

That white Fury right beside it looks just like my old Sport Fury. That one is a Fury 3 tho. It is a 2 door. Memories

I know you want what you want but that poly can easily make 500 hp and so few of them are left on the street..plus the WOW factor is much higher with the poly..also you would be keeping it original..good luck with your build..keep the videos coming 👍

Rennie Kontak I had a '69 300 in '78. I was car noob and the guy told me that it had a 383 in it... ALL these years that I've been bragging about the Torque and acceleration that 383 thrilled me with on demand in My old 300. HA!!! IT WAS A 440 ALL ALONG!!! Time to trade in the 383 Commando in my '65 Sport Fury for an RB!!!
